That sucks. But maybe getting fired from a lousy company is a good thing in the end.
Problem is, I tend to agree with you that there are no good companies, at least none of the big ones. Successful companies are just like rich billionaires – nobody gets there by being nice, generous and caring. No exceptions, all big corporations & billionaires got there by winning at the expense of others, by selfishly prioritizing their own profits over any unbusinesslike ideals like kindness. So you can expect all of them to treat you like shit when push comes to shove.
That’s one of the main reasons I refuse to work for someone else. I can’t trust anyone, least of all the successful ones in business. So I remain self employed, slowly drowning because I myself don’t have a shits worth of business sense or the cutthroat attitude to win. Fucked either way.
I write code for industrial design. It’s a niche market but there’s a lot of work because not too many people specialize in the industrial side, and those who do end up working for large corporations (i.e. not many freelancers like me).
The problem is despite there being a ton of work out there, I have no self-promotion skills so no one knows about me unless by word of mouth. That worked great in the city, but here in the middle of nowhere I’m sunk.
I guess that’s the problem with unemployment, regardless of whatever you do, if you don’t have the skills to find work… making calls, writing resumes, pounding the pavement… you end up rotting away with whatever skills you spent your life learning.

When Zlatan Ibrahimovich joined the LA Galaxy, he took out a full-page ad in the LA Times saying “You’re welcome, Lost Angeles”.
That always cracked me up.
What happened? Why’d they can you after giving you more hours?
