Luck. I had it once and life was grand. It ran out.
I feel like anything more than that would saddle me with the obligation to do more (always 1 step beyond my abilities, whatever they are). But with luck I could convince myself I’m a normal person, or at least the same as I always was, and keep doing what I’ve been doing. Only with actual results instead of disaster after disaster.

Probably leans towards luck. Unlimited money would be a close second.
Edit- Actually, mind control is pretty darn good too. If I have mind control, I’d be able to have a ton of money. So do I want luck or mind control? That depends. Do I have “normal” luck or just “above avg luck? Or extremely inordinately lucky? Like at almost every instance or time or event etc. If extremely lucky, maybe that. But if just a little lucky, nah, I’d go full evil with mind control lol ?

People underestimate how powerful luck really is. They also underestimate how powerful money is. When you’re poor, you get put into situations that would never happen if you’re not poor.
Money also creates “luck.” Or the lack there of creates “bad luck.”
Like for example, if one is poor, then you’re going to live in a shitty house or apt with shitty neighbors in a shitty neighborhood. People underestimate how what zip code you live in dictates and shakes your life. So if you’re poor, you’re likely to live in a bad house ir apt with mold or fungus. Then you’ll get sick and getting one of these will ruin your life. I’ve caught both when I moved here and my life has been irreparably damaged.
Then you have the shittiest neighbors, making your life hell. Which is what I also have.
And you live in a shitty neighborhood so there’s no place to walk to or go. No place to walk around to. Everything is gross and ghetto.
And f you live like this, you’ll always be stressed out.
If you live in a nice neighborhood, you’ll more likely to meet better ppl, make better friends, have more peace of mind, opportunities that you’ll never have living in a poor or ghetto neighborhood. I technically don’t live in the ghettos but where I am is a not very good neighborhood and it fucking sucks.
So luck- I have a friend of a friend who has this “dumb Homer Simpson luck.” You can google it- it is a thing. Homer is an idiot. He’s also lazy af. But he always gets lucky. Like he’s super lucky. Has a great paying job even tho he doesn’t deserve it and isn’t smart enough to do it properly.
I know ppl like “Homer.” For ex, this guy- a real person- is also fat lazy and stupid. Yet he makes 280k, has two nice houses, has good family, has a great job, has an insane pension bc he was lucky to be born as a boomer- not only a boomer but an older boomer. If he was born just 3-4 years later, he wouldn’t have that pension bc that’s when they started changing pensions and his buddies did not get what he does. NO ONE has a pension like he does. Do you know how much his pension is? He gets a whopping $7800/mo for doing NOTHING. No one has a pension this large. And he has two pensions. The other pension is $1600. So that’s 9400/mo just on the 2 pensions. That’s not counting what he gets in SS. Which idk the exact figure of.
And no, he is NOT smart or hardworking. In fact he is pretty fucking incompetent. And no, he also does not have a good personality. He is selfish rude fat lazy entitled and just a horrible person. But more importantly, he is pretty incompetent and they gave him the basic low level duties at his job. Despite the fact that he makes about 240k-280k/yr. Oh, and unlike everyone else who works on a salary, he also gets paid overtime- at 2x!
On a single day, a 12hr shift at 2x OT pay, he gets 10K!
There are people who work months to make 10K. He makes it in a single day. And again I reiterate- he is NOT smart nor talented nor hardworking. He does come in and take OT pay bc who wouldn’t given his ridiculous salary. I know of NO ONE who makes that much in his profession. No, he is not an executive or a legacy kiddo anything like that. He is a nurse. Not even an NP. Just a regular low level nurse. But makes an insane amount. And no, his younger non boomer nurses do NOT make that much. Nor get 10k/mo pensions. Again, luck.
Anyhow, he is also incredibly lucky everywhere else in life. Despite him being fat ugly and lazy (and no he was never good looking) he manages to get 2 rich bfs who paid his way- ie one let him stay at home and no NOTHING and not work. The other is literally a a billionaire from overseas who took him on a million vacations across the globe.
Everyone struggles to understand how he even meets such rich ppl let alone WHY someone that wealthy would go out with him. I’m pretty sure he was a side piece but still. And I’m not kidding when I say he’s fat ugly lazy and stupid. Even that rich ex calls him stupid. He does really stupid and dumb things all the time- yet somehow things ALWAYS work out in his favor.
And then if you are rich or in his case pretty well off given his 280k annual salary, then you can just easily get rid of problems or not have the problems that poor ppl have.
Again, he is fat lazy ugly and stupid. Not MY words, but those are are words if his mother, rich ex, and my online friend who does have regular contact with him. He says that guy just always has that dumb homer luck- that despite him being an idiot and doing idiotic things, that not only dies he nit gave negative consequences but he almost always does well.
And then there are ppl like me who no matter what I do, I get screwed by the universe.
Then you have people like the character “Frank Grimes.” If you’re not familiar, look that up because there are people exactly like that. Like me.
Where are you can literally be super intelligent, hard working, yet life just screws you over and always had bad luck. I know IRL people like that as well not just me. Rare, but they exist. People like that get CONSTANTLY screwed no matter what.
Bad luck IS a thing. Everyone thinks everyone has both good luck and bad luck. But that is not the case everyone has “good luck “and “bad luck “ different proportions. Some people are just super lucky and some are just super super unlucky. Like me. And the 1 other person I know IRL that has the same level of super shitty luck. Not talking about occasional bad luck or things resulting from someone’s stupidity. But extreme bad luck. He’s a very intelligent highly educated person who is super careful. But despite his best efforts, life always kicks him in the face. Just like the universe dies with me.
And like I said, then you have lazy fat idiots who do nothing yet has all the luck in the world. And we’re just supposed to just accept it. At least all the ppl with normal luck loves taking us bc THEY are not constantly getting screwed or getting the short end of the stick -_-
The one other person I know IRL that has almost as bad of luck as I do is this guy “Chris.” He’s a white male who grew up in the middle class income family. He’s incredibly brilliant academically and intellectually. He went to Cornell and Stanford and has like four or five degrees. But bad shit keeps happening to him. And no, he wasn’t stupid or irresponsible or causing his own problems. In fact, he is super careful and always tries to be prepared. Just time and again he gets screwed by ppl and by life.
He used to be a super sweet and nice guy. But not anymore. The last five years or so he’s changed. He’s no longer sweet and nice, and guess what? Now that he’s no longer nice, now he actually has better/decent luck and an improved life.
Moral of the story? Life probably is shit to nice and good ppl. I’ve been nice and very good my whole life, and all I ever got was screwed by ppl and by the universe. I also had a friend who was super nice but now she’s a cold callous person just like everyone else. Now that she’s no longer nice but shitty, now her life is better.
So yeah, Maybe the moral of the story is that being nice will garner you nothing but a horrible life. But if you’re a shitty person – selfish, opportunistic, manipulative, etc. – you’ll have a much better life.
Ofc there are exceptions and outliers. But For the most part, good people get screwed and evil shitty people get ahead and have much better lives.
And that is one of the main reasons why I have such a gripe with this fucking world.

I totally agree that the world is biased in favor of assholes. I don’t believe in any gods but I do believe that nature has basic rules that determine who survives. The fittest. And that usually means the biggest asshole. The ones who don’t think twice about stealing money, exploiting people, causing harm in order to survives. Nature fucking loves them.
I should add that my lucky streak in life was when I was a selfish bastard, preoccupied with my own ambition. Things always seemed to fall into place. When I developed a conscience, ethics and consideration for others, that’s when I fell hard into the shit. Almost like nature was punishing me for refusing to play the Hunger Games bullshit that nature wants us to play. Step on the weak, look out for #1 and spawn a crapton of babies (copies of yourself), that’s what nature wants.

for me, i’ve been so good, honest and moral my whole life. and i have had nothing but been knocked down, over and over again. i WANT to be a selfish self-centered manipulative opportunist bc that’s what the world rewards. but….how do i become one? i have a hard time not being honest and trying to be “evil” -_-

if it is yea I get it, the inner destructive beast is the most powerful part of us, and when Naruto lets it come out he can squash anyone like a grape.
The “winners” in life are the ones who are constantly in that mode. But I’m like you, although I might get flashes of rage against certain enemies, I can’t keep it up for long. My natural resting state is to be considerate of others because I can feel what they’re going through. I certainly don’t get my jollies in inflicting that sort of pain.
Even in my asshole stage I was never deliberately cruel. More like I was clueless yk? It’s unbelievable how many people we hurt by just being clueless. I’m not sure what made me wise up, maybe it was when I moved to the city and saw there were tons of people who were struggling to survive, and just because I had a head start in life didn’t make me any better than them. In other words, I guess it was just getting away from my small town mentality and actually seeing the world.
And yea it would be great if we could just turn off our conscience, embrace assholery and rocket to the top like all the other assholes. But for some of us that’s not an option. Maybe it’s a genetic weakness? Some of us have a fucking heart? Well nature has a great way of getting rid of its mistakes. It’s like: suicide – there’s the door.
