I will be off to college next august and I’m debating whether or not to try out the first semester before ending my life during winter break or ending it before college starts.  This decision needs to be made soon so that I can plan my summer. Should I get a summer job in order to go on a trip or prep and plan for my end? I know it’s really up to me, but for all you non 14 year-old, experienced ladies and gentlemen I would appreciate your opinion! Should I get a taste of college? I don’t like starting things I don’t plan on finishing…. Is it worth it?

I think you absolutely should give college a try. In college, you can declare your own major… which is the first step to setting the path that you want in life. You can experience some freedom, meet new people, and try different experiences. I think you’ll find college life to be quite different. Don’t get me wrong… It’s a lot of work if you plan to succeed. But, in many respects, it’s also a breath of fresh air.
Take a stab at a new scenario, try experiencing what the world has to offer and if that doesn’t satiate your needs or fulfill your expectations then off you go~
I see what you are saying distant. road, but I don’t plan on succeeding, graduating, or living long enough to declare my Major. I’m also a hermit and very content with my current situation (which is the entire problem). I don’t know if I will do enough my first semester to make it worth the time it will cost me (since I am a hard worker) and the money it will cost my parents. : /
Should I still do it despite these limitations on my opportunities in college?
I just graduated from college last year and I would recommend giving the experience of college a try. College for me was completely different than high school and schooling in general growing up. Many professors are doing their research on the side while teaching, so many are enthusiastic about what they teach. There is little to no drama in college because the students are there to learn and take it more seriously because they are paying for it. The clubs on the campus are also very fun. There are clubs that are not fraternity/sorority related and are just as much fun. I would personally chose to live by my college for the next 20 years if I could afford it. 🙂

Yes. You can still enroll in courses that interest you… and begin the academic path toward a major… whether you’ve declared one or not. You can be a hermit and survive college… If you are indeed a hermit as you suggest, I can’t see you having any difficulties passing. In your original post, you asked if you should get a taste of college. My opinion remains yes.
@Randy22 Congrats on graduating college last year Randy! Sounds like you had a great time. I bet college is very different from high school. Surrounded by wonderful, passionate and intelligent teachers and peers in high school, I have thoroughly enjoyed a drama free high school career (I will miss it terribly). Hopefully college will be just a wonderful. As long as my professors care about teaching freshman as much as they care about their research, maybe college won’t be too bad. Thanks for your input!
I say go for it.
As they say, choosing to end it all is a permanent solution, no going back from that. You can’t chose to leave this life and then change your mind and decide that you’d like to give college a try.
On the other hand, you certainly can try college and then change your mind and decide whether or not it is right for you.
You might enjoy the classes, you might meet one or two people who are actually worth knowing, etc.
Don’t worry about what it will cost your parents, I’m sure they would rather see you make an attempt than just give up. If you decide college isn’t for you, it’s not like they’re going to think “geez we wish he would have just killed himself instead of making us waste that money on a couple of first semester classes”.
Give it a try!
I’m in my mid-twenties by the way, per your request for older members to reply.
Just for that,Ima qive you a “kids” opinion.Hope you actually take It Into some consideration, then aqain you seem kinda close minded and I’m seventeen qoinq on eiqhteen.I think you should qo to colleqe!Give It a shot, you miqht be missinq out.If you don’t like It then you could always stop qoinq,It’s like not like it’s a University and your payinq all that money.Have you ever heard of the bucket list?If you have then set a date,I’d say somewhere around October.Enjoy your summer. If you haven’t accomplished anythinq from now till the date then you have all the more reasons to do It.I’m not try a persuade you to do It but If it you are then why not live life to the fullest before you do It!

Ok distant.road! I guess I will try college for a semester! Unfortunately I picked the worst college possible but I will make the most of it! Thank you for responding to my original post. 🙂 Have a great weekend.
Thanks for being honest ThousandCuts! I appreciate your advice. You’re exactly right!
conrad, you’ll do well in college… seriously. If the quality of your posts here is indicative of your ability to think, compose a thought, and articulate it, then you have nothing to worry about. No doubt. Have a great weekend, too.
hey, lifeishorrible… As I hope you know, I respect you for who you are. If I mis-worded something at 3:00am, please forgive me. Any offense to anyone was not intended.
Haha Lifeishorrible, I try not to be closed minded! Sorry if I appear that way. I guess wanting to end your life is closed minded towards life but other than that… LOL yes I have accomplished many things and will continue too! I try to live my life to the fullest every day. I do believe that teenagers can be wise at their tender age. I just wanted advice from those who already are, or went to college. Not trying to offend! Yes I know that the physical age of someone does not always match the mental age. Thanks for your input.
