I feel pretty sure that the answer to this question is a gigantic number. Â It is not just depressed people who are suicidal. Suicide, has always been linked to the depressed, or mentally disturbed, and it also has a label that describes them as not thinking straight.
The truth is, a vast number of people chose death over this life, and they are sane, intelligent, even successful people.Â
Many people who do wish to die rather than to live here, often, do not, due to fear. The fear of it failing, of it hurting too much, of religious beliefs, and the fear of leaving behind all the above labels that would inevitably be placed on the memory of their human life.
There are those who chose to help those who feel suicidal. These people are also, in fear of death, either because they are religious or because of some other deep routed belief inside of themselves that escaping this world is a bad thing to do. They may be right of course, who’s to say? No-one can really say if it’s a good or a bad thing. All anyone can ever know is what they have learned and what they can understand. Babies have no fear – if you told a baby that it was going to die, it would probably giggle at you for it doesn’t yet understand your language, nor does it understand death, even if you could explain it.Â
Animals don’t fear death.
Ancient tribes never feared death, they celebrated it. However . . . suicide was non-existent then, there was no need for it. Life was much shorter and much less complicated – if our way of life could be explained somehow to those tribesmen, and suicide could also be explained to them, I wonder how many of them would chose it over the lives we have now?
I wonder how many animals, who live in zoos as apposed to the land they used to roam before we stole it, would chose suicide if they knew how?
Most importantly, is this; Â How many people would chose death over this life if the element of fear was taken away?Â
Fear is the thing that governs this world, it controls every single aspect of your life. Who put it there? It wasn’t ‘God’, it wasn’t science and when humans were first created, we didn’t have it, not like we have it today. We just had an instinct of trouble. But today we are in fear of unhappiness, of happiness, of non-success, of success, of love, of non-love, of greed, of hunger, of poverty and of wealth – it all terrifies us. Life terrifies us, death even terrifies us.Â
Whoever you are and however you are feeling right now, only you can help yourself, only you have the answers – no-one can tell you anything you don’t already somehow know (or else you simply wouldn’t understand it). If you are on here because you think by some miracle that someone will give you what you need – it wont happen, no-one can ever give you what you need – you already have everything you need, there IS no more. If you think you need more love, more money, more happiness . . . that might be true, but no-one on here can give you any of that. If you take comfort in a person words on here, that’s nice, but in the main, it’s just like a sweet cup of tea – it wont last, it wont change anything, and if it does – then you were not as ill/scared/depressed as you thought you were.Â
You’re scared. We’re all scared. Some of us don’t look scared. The men in the sports cars with the fancy suits don’t look scared but they are, believe me. The gorgeous models in magazines don’t look scared but they are, believe me. Does Lady GaGa look scared to you? – Do you think she has spent her life up to now craving her success at ANY cost because she is not terrified of her own life?
We’re all scared, it might not seem like it but I promise you we are all in the same boat. In this life we will never find out who has placed this fear upon us, we will only discover that in a few more thousand years, either through science, or through ‘God’. Maybe it all means absolutely nothing in the grand scale of things? But we’re all scared – we’re scared of life and of death, which one you chose is your own choice, no-one else’s, and no-one can save you from either. But whichever one you do chose, makes you a hero because both are hard and terrifying.
From the bottom of my heart, good luck.

I found your words helpful Woody. Thank you. We are all running scared, of death, of life…
true
noone truly has the answers, some are quite good at convincing me/you they do .. noone’s supposed to show or dictate me/you which path to follow, the way to live .. I’ve been working on internalizing this belief for months
we’ve been taught fom an early age to dismiss our intuition in favor of approval, belonging etc .. in a much less fear-driven society, the majority of us would follow our gut feeling with very little doubt, guilt, search for approval etc
