There are two types of people in this world and when one of those types commits suicide or talks of suicide, it completely clashes with the other type of person which is why that clash happens here on this site. Suicide can really rock the foundations of a person, even just thinking about it can shake up everything that they believe. Â There are;
The Theists (religious and spiritual) believe that there is an afterlife, they have a destination to go to, if you really believe in a higher plane, a heaven or re-incarnation, then suicide is the rational thing to do. No matter how good anything is in this life, the next life’s gonna be so much better.
To Atheists, this IS the destination. We’re here for our own lives, we’re not going some place, oblivion is not some place you can get to. It’s nothingness, it’s the end of existence, it’s no longer being. So we wanna take as long as we can on that route, because this is what it’s all about! Â I’m an atheist and so I guess I am ‘very much of this world’ as someone described on this site. Sure, because I believe this is all there is and so I wanna make the best of it. I know it’s rough sometimes, but I try hard to overcome that. Â But, I would never judge anyone else for committing suicide, in fact, I can understand it – it’s just not something I would consider.Â
The reason people do judge you guys sometimes is because they cannot understand why you would want to leave this world. No matter how much they say they have had hard times and they understand you etc . . . . . they don’t! And you talking about suicide shakes up their beliefs and no-one likes that!
