How long can you last without food? Not without water though. I want to know how long someone can last without food before passing out or dying.
I also want to know how long someone can go without sleep.
Without sleep, years and years and years, they get used to it.
but the approach you need is in gathering the help from wherever it is, either family, friends, or specialists. All things evolve, so no matter how bad things look today, nothing stays static. Luckily absoutely everything is beatable, no matter how many problems or how bad they look.
18 days is the (verified) record for going without sleep, so “years and years” is just a ridiculous claim. If you think you want to kill yourself through either sleep deprivation or starvation, I would rethink it. The body can survive an astonishingly long time without food (besides being extremely unpleasant), and without lots of drugs, staying awake for any extended length of time is just not possible. You will sleep (eventually) (microsleep, collapse, etc.) no matter what you try to do to avoid it.
I’ve had sleep deprivation for up to 2 weeks at a time(chronic Insomniac)
It won’t kill ya,but it can get to the point where it will screw your mind up send you suicidally depressed,or in some other peoples cases Psychotic
Everyone’s right… sleep dep & starvation are very inefficient methods. I can’t say much about sleep dep, but I’ve done extensive self-experiments with starvation (in fact I recently posted about my latest, somewhere on here).
Here are the interesting things I’ve found…
No food, only water, alcohol & occasional juice to make the vodka go down easier – I went for 44 days before I got bored. Never felt any weakness except right in the beginning. I still kept my regular workout schedule at the gym & rollerblading 15 miles each week and actually was more lucid & productive than I’d ever been. So much for quietly slipping away…
No food, NO WATER, nothing – very unpleasant after 5 days. Extremely irritable, weak, unable to get out of bed. You may succeed in dying, but it’ll really suck, based on my experience.
Documented cases – In 1981 ten Irish hunger strikers died after around 60 days each. The longest was Kieran Doherty who went 73 days. The shortest was Martin Hurson who went 46 days. One guy, Laurence McKeown, went 70 days before he quit. He’s alive & healthy today, so perhaps there are no long term effects.
But I strongly urge you to watch the movie “Hunger” (2008), about the Irish hunger strikers. I guarantee you’ll seriously think twice about trying it yourself, it looks like bloody hell to die that way.
But if you do decide to try it, or if anyone else has experience, please post about it. I still think that’s the way I want to go. I just need to work up the discipline.
Three days without water and I went blind. I got scared and drank two liters and had some salt substitute and salt. I don’t think there can be a more painful death than starving. Don’t try it.
