Hi to Silent Screamer and to anyone else that might cut or self harm. There could be a number of reasons why you self harm but in most cases it seems to be a pain management thing or a feeling that one deserves to suffer and feel pain.
If this is the case then one suggestion I can offer is to run. Seriously, when you push yourself, running is one of the toughest things you can do physically. Think up a distance or time that you think will challenge you, for example running half a mile or running for 10 minutes without stopping maybe or more if you are in decent shape.
If you are doing a run that will challenge you, eventually your legs will get tired, your lungs will feel short of breath and eventually your mind will want to give up but don’t, keep pushing yourself through the pain until you reach your target. When you reach your target, I promise you, you will feel better (if you don’t the run was not challenging enough for you) and will not need to self harm for at least a few days.
After this, each time you feel the need to self harm or the ‘darkness’ returning, run. Make sure to run slightly faster or further than the last time, always look to improve. This is not a permanent solution to what you may be going through but it will give relief in the short term and will be more productive and useful to you than cutting or other forms of self harm.
I hope this has been useful to you Silent Screamer and to anyone else who may be reading. If you need anymore advice, info or help, just leave a reply and I will get back to you when I can.
