If done safely with the purpose of alleviating emotional pain, what’s the big fucking deal? Can somebody shed some light on why such a practice is so shunned and ridiculed in our society? Because as an alternative to suicide (no duh) or using drugs it seems like it would be the better tool.

Let the record state that while I have experimented with burning myself in the past I do not do it regularly and have not for over a year. Just wanted to start a discussion.
I don’t fucking know, I slash my inner thigh, no explinations, no goddamn accusations of “doing it for attention” none of the fuckers bussiness!
Cutting, or other forms of self-mutilation, are frowned upon because it is an inherently dangerous activity. Most obviously, cutting yourself leaves you vulnerable to potentially serious infections. Additionally, a person may purposefully or accidentally cut too deep, making the self-inflicted wound fatal.
You’re right that cutting yourself is better than suicide (no duh is right), or maybe using drugs (keep in mind that some drugs, like marijuana, are actually pretty safe), but the fact is that there are a lot of activities that are safer than all three of these.
I’de say that society just ins’t at the point of being able to understand it, and history shows that most things we don’t understand as a society we shun… I hope u get some peace about it all somehow
Society will condone self destruction as long as they can’t see it. An alcoholic, cocaine addict and habitual liar, can all take years to develop their addiction. They can wonder aimlessly through life, dying from the inside out. If you cut yourself and bring attention to it, it’s undeniable that you have a problem and it’s harder for people to look away from something that is physically visible. This is the main difference I’ve found anyway, but you must understand that like the addictions I listed above, cutting can become an addiction and can deeply affect your life, but probably no more than alcoholism or drug dependency.
Please don’t harm yourself.
