I wonder how long it will be before virtual reality becomes a real alternative. It seems obvious when you look at technology and society that the two are merging in such a way that soon enough there will be avatar like virtual realms where people will be able to view and communicate with others from all around The world from the safety and privacy of there own homes. Imagine the possibilities. A chat room where you actually interact with real people in real time. If your bored or lonely or whatever, put on your head set, log in, and go into whatever room interests you.

It exists, it’s called World of Warcraft. 😛
I wish I could replace this reality with virtual permanently and have sole consciousness of some beautiful fantasy world and not even a memory of this one. I could die of old age connected to such device and not have to think about suicide but of course that’s just a dream.
when I was younger I read the Pendragon series, and one of the “territories” the protagonist goes to is comprised of a bunch of pyramids where you live in your own fantasy. the point of the book was that the planet will die if everyone neglects it to live in their own virtual world, but I would happily die in a fantasy.
