The thing about religion
You have to act perfect
Fit in
Go to their youth groups
Pray all the time
What’s the downs about religion?
Oh I’ll tell you
You get judged all the time
Talked about
Stared at rudely
Being called the “devil”
Just because I stated my thoughts
They say they won’t judge you
But they do
I would think of religion as of something I would feel comfortable having
But I guess I was wrong
A bunch of hypocrites, can I say?

escapetobehappy,
I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this.
As an older person, I know that young people can be so cruel. They are so focused on being someone that they will put others down to lift themselves up.
Growing up, I never really stood out, because I was quiet and everyone pretty much dressed the same back then. I think that kept me safe from some of the cruelty. And if my group began excluding others or gossipping about someone, I was out of there. I ended up finding some nice people to hang out with.
In church, you’ve got people who go for socializing, popularity or because they have to. But, there are a few who really know God. They’ve encountered God and he is in their heart. That’s what you want to look for. It may take a while, but I trust there are some people at your church or another church in the area that will be better examples and more accepting.
And reality is, even for those of us who have had an encounter with God, we’re not perfect. We want to please God, and we see our flaws, and we pray God would make us more loving, but it takes time. We are broken because of hurts from our past (divorce, abuse, neglect). It takes time to trust. There are times when there will be disagreements. And sometimes friendships will dissolve. But, we have that one friend we can always look to and lean on.
