So, I went to the bank yesterday. It was kinda funny.
First, I asked the girl at the door about setting up a Transfer on Death for my checking account. She called it Payable on Death but whatever. Then she says sure, she can do that for me. I say, that’s great and tell her I’m going to pay off my credit card bill first and will be right back. Then I walk over to the teller and make my payment (EDIT: to the bank I am at and on the card from that bank with a check from my account at that bank).
So, when I get back, the girl asks for my social security number so she can lookup my account. Then, I gave her the information of the person who should get control of my account (and all my personal info, blah, blah) which takes just a few short minutes. Then she looks at me and asks for my I.D. Â As I’m getting my driver’s license out of my pocket I look up, smile at her and say: “If I’m not me then I’d like to thank whoever just paid my credit card bill.”
The look on her face was priceless.

Wow beautiful… Are you related in anyway to Dawg?
Hmmm. No. There’s a poster named Dawg? Cool.
I’m slow and stupid today. What did that mean? Did it mean that you wanted her to question if it was fraud (that you used a fake ID)?
glass_music_cup: No. LOL. I just thought it was funny because I told her I would be right back to set up the transfer but I wanted to pay off my (bank) credit card bill first. And, I thought she would get that if I paid off my bill (with a check written from my account at that bank) that I was the also the one who wanted to set up the transfer on that account.
I guess you had to be there, sorry.
If this helps, what I did was sign off so that when I die a friend gets control of my account. She can have the money. This way, she won’t have to wait for the Will and estate to be settled. I’ve left everything to her anyway, but this way the account (money) will automatically go / belong to her at the time of my death. No questions.
