Do they know how desperate you’ve been feeling? If so it sounds like they’re a lot of the problem. I hope you don’t do it, but I’d understand if you did. What made them say this?
Best advise I was ever given. If you can’t make it better dont make it worse. I don’t know why they said you make this worse, however I do know they made it worse by saying that. Life is hard. Being a teen is hard. Being a parent is hard and we all make mistakes. Give them some slack and they will give it right back.
