No the US misses out since the soccer games are more interesting and the trick shots baffle those big idiots in football and for the record the giants and pats both suck.
Um, no, what planet are you from? The strategy involved with football is incredibly intriguing and way more exciting than soccer. You’re literally just kicking a ball up and down the field, how boring is that. Not to mention in football people are bashing each other into the ground and tackling people. Soccer doesn’t have anything on that. Geez, someone’s a sour sport, just because your football team sucks doesn’t mean you have to project it onto others
Those big idiots in football? lol. A vast majority of them have college degrees, and many of them own/operate businesses outside of their NFL careers.
Barry Sanders.
Earl Campbell.
Joe Montana.
Ray Lewis.
etc.
Soccer is clearly inferior.
I’ve seen both. I don’t know how anyone can honestly believe that soccer is “more interesting.” It’s a bunch of dudes in flashy shorts, kicking a ball around a field for a while. Foot-and-hand-ball is far more interesting.
Your usual seriousness is a little dubious here but I’ll play. Your assertions are absolutely asinine. I can look past the stupid appeal of watching other grown men play anything whatsoever, but you can use that same line of bullshit on just about anything. “Well, you know, an airplane is just some metal and fuel” and “War is just what people do to each other.” Soccer and football and rugby are all team sports wherein the objective is to score an offensive point in spite of the other team actively trying to do the same. What does it matter whether you use your hands or your feet to knock the ball around? Maybe I’m missing it, is a bunch of guys groping each other without serious injurious consequence some kind of test booster? I play soccer but I could never watch it. It’s the individual sportsmen I can watch
You’re into watching particular sportsmen…
You see “a bunch of guys playing with balls in a field”
You think “football and soccer are nearly identical”
You’re saying what the guys do with the ball, and how they do it, is irrelevant… but you like watching special dudes play with the ball, instead of paying attention to the dynamics of the game itself?
You do realize how you’re making it look, right? lol. 😉
The one concession i will make is that actually playing soccer is almost certainly very interesting, and is probably better for the overall well-being of a human body, than american football. I never intended to discount the validity of the skills required to play soccer. I’ve attempted it myself, i know it’s not easy, and i can certainly appreciate fancy footwork, regardless of whether there is a sport or a ball involved.
I totally thought we were talking about which sport is more interesting to watch others play. But there is definitely a huge difference between placing a perfectly kicked soccer ball exactly where you want it, and throwing a perfect spiral pass, exactly where it needs to be, when it needs to be there.
One thing i’ve certainly noticed in the past, is that people seem to be most interested in the sport they know the most about. Some people love baseball, or basketball, or NASCAR…
But the only “sport” that i would think is worth turning off an american football game, to watch, would be street/park skateboarding. The best skaters make that shit look magical. I also have some past experience in that realm, so i can certainly appreciate what goes into cultivating a high skill for it.
Haha clevername, you’re one cool dude. I can definitely see you having been into skateboarding before. 😛 I love watching that stuff too, although I never tried it myself.
I used to play soccer as a kid, that was fun. I haven’t gotten around to it since. I used to be quite athletic in my younger days; it’s sad that I’m so inactive now.
I got you, I was just trying to incite lol. But no way, what I meant by individual sportsmen was, and I cant find the correct word here, but un-team sports. Weightlifting, running, jumping, swimming, not golf. Its either my ADHD or inability to see what others see in watching team sports. Love to play them all though and certainly don’t see anything wrong with people enjoying something they find interesting. Sometimes I think about all the money I could make turning decrepit cities like Detroit into paintball parks.
Football is going down hill fast by 2020 there wont be any contact allowed it will be tag only……the NFL recently lost a lawsuit to 4500 players over not warning them about concussions ….so what do you think will be the repercussions? that’s right more safety measures ….
Yeah… it’s unfortunate, but i think american football has seen it’s “heyday,” and is headed for decline.
I just don’t understand how so many players who played:
(some played peewee)
Middle school
High school
College
THEN
NFL…
“didn’t know about concussions because the NFL didn’t warn them”
Just seems like BS to me.
How does someone play football for at least 10 years, prior to going pro, and “hasn’t been warned about concussions?”
Making such a claim, in my eyes, represents either fraud, or an utterly mentally incompetent human being. Most NFL players have A) played football for at least 10 years prior to NFL, and B) graduated, or at least almost completed, college.
A concussion is not something that you just overlook. When it happens, you know. When it’s even close, you know “that might have been a concussion…”
Still, i think the game itself is fascinating, dynamic, and often incredibly intriguing, if you know what to watch for. But i can totally see how someone who hasn’t been there might not ‘get it,’ and might be bored.
@clevername …..even if they were warned or weren’t warned by the NFL it doesn’t matter… these guys are paid more than engineers and doctors…even at the lowest level they still make more….I think a reasonable expectation of injury should be considered by the players….to me the lawsuit is dumb its like a tuna fisher getting bit by a shark and suing his employer for not warning him about the sharks….like really? did you just not see jaws?….. I think many of the players suing were just broke and needed a little boost in the financial department ….and like you said its not like the idea of concussions is new I’m sure they knew about them long before signing that big contract

Uh, yah. Pats are going head to head with the Giants right now, I’m on the edge of my seat, I might need a paper bag or a pitchfork by the end of it
I think they are talking about the other football! lol
Oh. You foreigners, you’re missing out 😉

@SB: lol. Probably planet unamerica. 😉
In what way is soccer inferior? The two sports are nearly identical and require similar skill sets.
1. hands
2. full (okay nearly full) contact
3. “downs”
4. ball shape
Hacky Sack is more similar to Soccer, than is American football. Rugby is more similar to American football, than Soccer is.
But, you know… humans on a field playing with a ball.
I think it would be interesting to make a pseudo-triangular football field and add a third team to the contest.
