I am on antidepressants and I have found it has completely fucked up my sexual gratification. I find that I can become aroused, to the point of orgasm. However, I find that I can’t really orgasm… If I do, then it’s half the sexual satisfaction it used to be.
Does anyone have some advice? Is this happening to others?
I am on Escitalopram.
This is really frustrating, please reply with any advice you have.

Switch to zoloft. A similar drug with limited side effects.
That’s actually the biggest reason I loved being on SSRI’s/SNRI’s – despite the fact that the rest of the effects were horrific and nearly intolerable for me. But for me, I just lost my libido pretty much entirely. Had no interest in sex in any way shape or form, which was a blessing since without that effect, sexual impulses feel like a really boring chore that I have to perform from time to time, much like clipping my toenails or unclogging a clogged sewer pipe.
Whelp, guess you’ll just have to double up!
Honestly though, if you have an “urgent” drug interaction issue, you should perhaps contact a doctor… although i tend to be rather wary of them, myself. Always acting like they “know” things, despite never having experienced them first-hand…
@ Clevername: To me, this is urgent. I function better when I don’t feel stressed or anxious. Adding stress and tension to my relationship just adds more stress and depression to my life. Also adding more inadequacy and self loathing to my thoughts. So this would be considered ‘urgent’ to me. Also, you’re making a huge generalisation and assumption that all doctors have never been through mental health issues. That cannot be true. I mean, seriously haha! And I would say that studying medicine would make you a bit of an expert on these things. But each to their own.
Are you on Zoloft @ Duke of Marmalade? I would like to know how it makes you feel?
@Lorax, I agree with you at the beginning it was fine, but now that I have someone I want to be intimate with, it’s kind of just been awful!
I’ve been on it in the past. It affects people differently. Zoloft is the closest drug to citalopram without those side effects.
Thank you so much, I think I will talk to my doctor about it. I appreciate your reply 🙂
My doctor in Florida was a neurotic, depressed, hair-brained lunatic who had a pdoc of his own. It was like a little shake-and-bake oven of neurochemistry every time I had a maintenance appointment.
You just have to trust me on this.
