While no one will ever exceed the excellence of the original by Simon and Garfunkle, and indeed, some of the younger members here may have never heard of them, this rendition by Josh Groban and Michael Knight is pretty special.
I hope this song can be a message of support for my fellow sufferers here at SP. My dear mother died one year ago today. I was her companion/caregiver for the last 2 years of her life. Today, I miss her so much and my heart is heavy.
Grace and peace to you all, my friends.
And as I asked of you all before….Please, try to stay alive.

Hi I’m a neighbour to this post sorry about you mom and really loving the link
What an amazing version of that song. Goosebumps all over.
So, once again the word “try” makes me think of Yoda’s famous line. “There is no try, Luke. Only do or do not.” I’m either alive or I’m not.
Its getting to the place where being alive is somewhat enjoyable or without so much suffering. How do you do that? How do you find that place in life? Sometimes trying so hard, straining, grinding it out doesn’t get you closer. Sometimes it’s more of a letting go, an acceptance of what is. Loose yourself, gain the world.
Randall….I love the original Star Wars trilogy….but I think looking to Yoda for a sense of purpose or a reason to stay alive is a little starry eyed. What’s really kinda funny about you quoting Yoda is I took one of those silly quizzes on Facebook that asked “Which Star Wars Character Are You?” I got Yoda!!!!! LOL
But seriously, I think that when the soul is as broken as those of some here, that “do or do not” has to be accomplished in stages. It was only when Luke had all the tools he needed to dwell IN the force that Yoda made his pronouncement. Remember he often told Luke that he was not ready and his training was incomplete. And then, when Luke was finally able to say he understood that he still needed to learn that Yoda said “Already do you know all that you need.”
I think, perhaps, when trying so hard and straining and grinding it out seem to not advance us, it’s because we are reaching too far and too high, considering our brokenness. Remember Luke had to start our learning to lift stones and rocks before moving on to bigger things. And even when he finally had it all, he didn’t believe in himself and tried too hard to raise his ship from the swamp. Yoda still had to show him that such accomplishments only come from peace and the surrender to the Force you allude to.
My friend, I think it’s all about baby steps…..and that you are really on to something….Loose yourself, gain the world.
From one bay area guy to another, glad you got to be there for your mom. As tough as the decline can be to watch, it’s hard not to have gratitude for a good mom.
I agree about S&G, G sort of hit the high notes in a way few can (except Whitney).
