Do other people feel the despair that I feel when they hear these words? I wish my eyes would stop leaking. I’ve just popped a lorazepam. I want to scream. I’ve got to slay this dragon and go work.
It depends where I’m at. The “stay strong” admonition implies I’m in a place of strength or resilience to begin with. If I’m not, it may make me feel isolated, but it helps me to understand the speakers strategy (stuff it down) and that they may not be available to hear anything.
When I hear the words “stay strong” it’s like a kick in the balls if I had balls. The reason it’s hurtful 1) it usually comes from people in a much better condition than I’m in (I have birth defects. If I hear “stay strong” from somebody without birth defects or any serious life problem, I know theyre just words from somebody who can’t imagine how much strength it takes to get through a day. and 2) I’ve been staying strong for three decades now. How much longer you want me to “stay strong” for? Another ten years in hell? F/ck that.

Thank you both for helping to clarify my feelings on this point. Much appreciated.
