I often do the same thing, I’ve been toled its a coping mechanism but for coping with what I’m unsure.
I don’t know any other way to address a problem. I think that’s it. Every other way seems like I want attention, or I am really messed up, so yeah.
Joking reduces tension/stress and makes an uncomfortable subject more appealing to hear by others. I think it’s also a form of bonding…I remember catching myself joking to a confidante at work about how I was treated very unjustly or someone doing something to piss me off.
I don’t do it very often but it comes out more like “can you believe this happened to me”…possibly a saving-face mechanism too. Ya I’ve never liked to make light of very serious issues. You see this more often in kids…embarrassment counts as a part of it also I think.
