@aye russo; Yes. Would you want somebody to mutilate your genital region? Imagine someone using a sharp, surgical grade knife to “slice a little off the top” of the most sensitive area of your body.
It is for me. I was 14 when it happened, though, so I experienced both. Although there are minor variations in the procedure and I got the most severe kind, yes, it still kills sexual pleasure across the board. You’ll hear a lot of circumcised men defending it, but they’re usually men who were cut as babies and haven’t experienced the foreskin.
My parents nor I gave informed consent for it to happen. It was for phimosis–which means tight foreskin. Under medical ethical codes, a doctor is supposed to choose the least invasive method of dealing with a problem. He didn’t. It was actually misdiagnosed since foreskins become retractable at different ages for different men.
You’ll hear a lot about the horrors of FGM on the news, but they will never address the issue of MGM, which is legal in all countries. Most people don’t understand that it isn’t a medical procedure but an ancient act of sexual oppression. It was adopted by prudish Victorians in the West in order to ‘cure’ masturbation, the very same reasons FGM was practiced in the West up until relatively recently. Because we now live in a gynecocentric society and feminists/leftists have so much control over the media narrative, men’s problems like this get overlooked.
A lot of people just don’t think about it. All of a man’s sexual pleasure comes from the foreskin, ridged band, frenulum and frenular delta. I had them all cut off. The glans on a man isn’t sexually sensitive, it’s more of a pressure, temperature and pain sensor. I’d equate what was done to me with a woman who’s had her glans clitoris and clitoral hood cut off, though it’s probably even worse since more nerves are excised. A woman who’s had that done still has sexual nerves in her vaginal canal.
That’s because you haven’t experienced being intact, lorax. You’ve given the same response most men cut at birth give who were acculturated within a genital cutting culture. If I gave you a foreskin for a day, you’d flee the country before I could take it back from you.
No, that’s because I’m asexual; I doubt even having a foreskin would change my lack of interest in sexual exploits. It seems boring and bizarre to me. I’ve even met other asexual guys who were never circumcised, so I know it’s not just a cultural response.
I was circumcised when I was about six years old. Nobody asked for my permission beforehand and I wasn’t told what was going to happen. I was taken to the hospital intact, the procedure was performed, then I woke up in excruciating pain.
I didn’t want to leave the hospital. I wanted them to “fix” me, to put everything back where it was originally. Circumcision is a barbaric, unnecessary practice which should not be performed unless the person getting cut agrees to it. If you want to mutilate yourself, fine, but don’t mutilate someone who didn’t ask for it.
I’ve been on various medications for emotional and psychiatric defects and they’ve affected my libido, I’m sure the side effects I’m experiencing aren’t anything like the effects of circumcision, but I don’t understand why the absence of sexual pleasure is that bad. Maybe it’s just an intrinsic quality of my own that the lack of sexual pleasure isn’t that significant or maybe it’s because I’m female and men tend to have a much more intense libido, but I don’t get why not being to get off is that bad. There are plenty of other ways to get dopamine, oxytocin and seratonin to pump through your brain.
If you do not experience sexual attraction, you have a medical problem.
Do you masturbate? If you masturbate, you cannot be asexual, by definition.
You’re letting modish sociological talking points by liberal arts majors infect your thinking. There is nothing scientific about the invented concept of asexuality.
Lawrence, I read your post because I found it compelling–because I agree with you that no one should be permanently physically altered without her/his consent or medical need pressing enough to affect survivability in a setting in which the individual cannot give and has not previously given consent. I agree with your assertion as a matter of individual autonomy.
You’re of course not obliged to care what I feel, but it’s nonetheless disappointing to read now in your comments to others you diagnosing and condemning them to medical pathology for exercising their equally valid autonomy to make decision about their sexuality. I won’t bore you here with a formal exegesis, but you can explore Pubmed free to read the biomedical community’s evolving empirical perspective of sexuality–including asexuality, complete with several elegant, ethical populational, genetic, and neurobiological studies spanning the past decade in tandem with our increasingly sophisticated evolution of molecular techniques.
Human psychosocial variables, like sexuality, are far more fluid than our traditional minimalist categorizations allow for. I’d hope that if you want others at least ideologically to sympathize with your platform of the primacy of self-ownership, you’d allow them the same regard.
If she’d said she was homosexual, I wouldn’t have questioned her. But to say ‘I have no libido and this is normal’ is quite clearly absurd. You’re making the classic PC mistake that we must always indulge what someone feels without pointing out the flaws in their reasoning. It is not normal to be asexual, i.e. feel no sexual attraction. The very fact they masturbate proves this sexual category false.
Forgive me if I do not put much faith in sociological studies. The medical establishment allow and promote circumcision, going so far as to even say it reduces the chance of prostate cancer, UTI’s, HIV and other STD’s, even though an objective evaluation of the methodology of all studies proves them to be false and nothing other than post hoc rationalisations.
It is very clear to me that although there is much good science out there, the scientific community has been infected by politics and does not abide by the scientific method 100% of the time. Areas like psychology and sociology have been particularly infiltrated by the liberal-Left and so the quality of the science (much of the time it isn’t science at all) is very poor.
There are certain sensations that must be experienced to be understood. Words fail to describe the experience.
As a man I can’t pretend to know what it’s like to get pregnant and give birth. I can try to understand what it’s like but I’ll never really know.
Getting high is the same. I can try to explain what it’s like to drop acid or get really baked on KGB, but unless you experience it for yourself you’ll never really know what it’s like. Words can’t describe what it’s like – you have to experience it for yourself. I would say an intense orgasm also falls into this category.
You are correct. It is a human rights abuse, child abuse, rape, torture and mutilation all rolled up into one socially acceptable package. A doctor can perform this barbaric act on a baby, call himself a medical professional and draw a handsome salary while receiving the respect of his community. A man can have consensual sex with a 15 yr old girl and go to jail.
This is a fucked up world. One of the reasons I’m suicidal is I’ve taken the red pill and see the unfathomable illogicality of our society. Women and girls are protected from genital cutting all over the Western world and yet the media, our education system and our politicians do not address the glaring double standard. This is because men are disposable and women are worshipped.
Viagra can’t help me because it won’t bring back the 20,000 or more sex nerves that were excised. I’m in the UK and Viagra isn’t very popular. Interestingly the USA is the biggest consumer of Viagra and most of its men are circumcised. There is a link between the two. Circumcision is big business for quacks–they earn money from the procedure, they earn money from selling foreskin tissue to Big ******, and Viagra sells by the truckload as a consequence. Cha-ching.
Well women have more rights and privileges than men in the Western world. That’s an incontrovertible fact. As for developing countries, that’s a different kettle of fish and most people suffer in one way or another regardless of gender.
Actually, aye, that’s not strictly true. Yes, some people circumcise for religious reasons; however Jews and muslims are a tiny minority in the USA–most boys are circumcised because it’s a cultural thing. Doctors promote it because 1) they are usually circumcised at birth and don’t see the big deal; and 2) they earn cash from it. There is a concerted effort by the medical establishment to keep the practice alive, even though it is a human rights abuse , by definition.
FGM is also an Islamic cultural practice that is as much a religious requirement as male circumcision. The Western media won’t tell you that though. The reality is that it is not a religious necessity to be circumcised as a Jew or as a muslim. However, it’s inspired by religious culture. In the hadith, female circumcision is described as meritorious.
Despite FGM having a religious link, it’s still banned in the Western world. Men and boys are ignored though. It could be banned very easily.
All the top consumers of Viagra are countries that circumcise. They blame psychological problems because they will not admit the truth. Muslims won’t want to admit it as it’s part of their culture, and American will suppress the truth as they make money from it.
If your body belongs to you then you should be able to do what you want with it. It is unethical, barbaric, and just plain wrong to mutilate another human being against his/her will. Period.
This isn’t a complicated issue. Don’t slice up babies – it’s that simple. Just because doctors have been mutilating baby boys for centuries and society accepts this deplorable behavior as normal doesn’t make it ok.
but whatevs, i’ve had my fair share of feminist rants on here, poor men. Circumcisions sucks I agree and I’m very against it, but I don’t understand how men can accuse women of having a victim mentality when they are the victims in this patriarchal culture and society. I don’t want to argue though, go start up a men’s rights advocacy group
men are the majority of the people performing circumcisions, perpetuating their procedures and benefiting financially from them, so basically it’s men shooting themselves in the foot, don’t bring women into this.
Women are protected by law from genital mutilation.
Women receive positive discrimination in the workplace, also known as gender quotas.
Women have 100% of the reproductive rights while men have none, i.e. a woman has ultimate say on whether a couple’s child lives. If a man wants the child, she can kill it anyway. If he doesn’t want it, she still can have it and then make him pay child support.
Women receive lesser sentences than men for the same crimes.
It is socially acceptable for women to laugh about male genital mutilation, e.g. penises getting chopped off and circumcision, on live television, or in public life in general. A man would never and could never laugh about the equivalent crime toward a woman and be treated as anything other than a pariah.
Men pay far more tax than women on the whole and through state welfare, that tax money is largely redistributed to women.
I mean, unless you have some evidence to back up your claim, it looks like I win this argument hands down. Sorry.
“men are the majority of the people performing circumcisions, perpetuating their procedures and benefiting financially from them, so basically it’s men shooting themselves in the foot, don’t bring women into this.”
” go start up a men’s rights advocacy group”
Society doesn’t care about men.
MRA’s can’t do shit. The only way to change society is for men to go on strike. When all men go on strike, society collapses and women then understand the value of men. When all women go on strike, after a few days readjustment, everything is just fine. In fact, productivity would probably increase and people would be happier.
@lawrencenewman; I guess the question here is “what now”? What’s done is done, you can’t change the past. You’re stuck. Even if you sued for medical malpractice all the money in the world won’t restore you. You could take the high road and forgive those who’ve wronged you, but that won’t alter your physical status.
It’s a tough situation, man. I’m sorry. I sincerely wish you the best.
Yes, I know. I’m in a pickle. I am not scared of dying, but I haven’t had the courage thus far to jump off a cliff or something like that. I search the web for effective pills but I can’t seem to find anything. Everything’s highly regulated here in the UK.
I tried to sue but there’s a statute of limitations; I can’t sue for an operation performed as a child once I pass 21. At least financial restitution would give me security. I refuse to work because I don’t value my existence and so it’s irrational to me to go out and do some shitty job in order to fund an existence I don’t want. I view it as slavery, which is apt considering circumcision was an Ancient Egyptian slave-marking ritual.
@lawrencenewman; I think most people on this site feel like they’re trapped or screwed over for whatever their reasons might be (myself included). There are no easy answers.
Suicide is a reassuring option for me; just knowing I hold that card- knowing I can pull the plug whenever I want to is actually quite comforting. The thing is, once you do it there’s no going back. There’s no “oh wait – I didn’t mean it. Can I get a do-over”? (I don’t plan on ever “attempting” – I’ll do it correctly the first time).
I guess you have to ask yourself if you can find a way to live a life that’s worth living. Is non existence better than carrying on given your current situation? I don’t know. Only you can answer that. You seem like a bright individual and I hope you can find fulfillment and/or some sort of acceptable resolution.
(Doling out advice isn’t really my strong suit) 🙂
aye, do you think you should be commenting when you aren’t educated on the cell biology of the penis, have no clue what damage circumcision does and have even fully admitted your ignorance?
You’ve already conceded the debate because you had no evidence to back up your feminist theory, in contrast to me, who provided legal facts.
You wouldn’t say what you just said to a victim of FGM. And that upholds my point on male disposability. You care about women but not about men. That’s your prerogative, but if it is then this isn’t the thread for you.
You’re conflating being a dick with someone who gives factual information. If the truth is inconvenient for you, maybe you should go to an alternative site where you can bathe in comments from fellow feminists who share your prejudices.
nah, being a dick corresponds with your self absorption and narrow mindedness, which you clearly have an excessive amount of. there are enough crazies on SP, could you move along please?
I find it amazing that a man has come here with some obvious problems and concerns which he would like to discuss with others and you have all managed to turn it into a female issue. You’d think people would be a little more understanding and sensitive on a forum which is for people who wish to end their lives but clearly this isn’t the case. You’ve all proved his point about women without even knowing it. Well done, cunts.
Thank you, ShowusyerwillE. Your support is appreciated. Please refrain from calling these angry, suicidal people ‘cunts’, though, as it’s not constructive. They obviously have issues, as do I. They just choose to get angry and abuse me instead of debating in a rational manner. I’m sure they’re good people and it’s just how they’re dealing with their issues. It’s like the stages of grief, right?
I must admit, I was wrong to use abusive language. Things just got heated. I suppose we must just be supportive to them and their delusions of oppression and asexuality. I do hope they work things out in the end as it’s terrible to see them so frustrated and angry. I know what it’s like myself!
Her insulting you pleased me, and you deserved it for the attitude you’re having. I’m not a die-hard feminist and understand what this post is about, but that was a good comeback from her to you.
Well obviously it wasn’t a good comeback. It wasn’t much more thought out than calling me poopoohead. She couldn’t back up anything she said with evidence so resorted to name-calling. If that’s what you class as a good comeback, I seriously question your intellect.
Good comeback? She insulted a suicidal man who feels depressed about his lack of genital tissue. If he had done the same to a mutilated female, you’d see this a lot differently. You are a mangina.
Ay yo, guv. Yew have a micky wit’ your half a willy, innit? Roight, perhaps you should pay dear Doc Jekyll a visit, get your willy turned outside in, yeah? Them nerve endings sure as feck won’t regrow ’emselves, but me uncle…erm, aunty…seems to like the pleasure afforded to him…FUCK I mean her…as a recipient of genital reconstruction surgery. That being said, go get yourself a pint and drink it back.

is being circumcised really that bad?

idk i’m into BDSM, being stabbed in the **** sounds pretty thrilling

Honestly, I don’t even remember being circumcised. Mr. Winky has never complained to me about it.

Hahaha… lack of testosterone. That’s amusing. No, it’s actually a viable sexual preference; not experiencing sexual attraction, essentially.

aye russo,
It’s bad because
1) I have a normal to high sex drive and can never assuage my desires due to the lack of pleasure;
2) I was the victim of medical negligence and cannot get restitution for it; and
3) It has affected every relationship I’ve been in due to the associated erectile dysfunction and lack of feeling, rendering sex boring.
Yep, shit people say to asexuals; you’ve hit pretty much the whole spectrum so far. Go on, tell us another. 😉
can you take viagra for it? I’m terribly ignorant, sorry

The US’s culture is founded on theism, so of course circumcision’s being socially acceptable is a product of it
aye,
Circumcision was adopted in the USA to control male sexuality. It was not due to religion.

aye, this was the most honest and truthful statement you’ve made thus far.
It’s quite clear that you’ve been indoctrinated by a gender studies course or a feminist somewhere down the line.
All you do is parrot feminist lines without any evidence to back them up.

You wouldn’t say what you just said to a victim of FGM. And that upholds my point on male disposability. You care about women but not about men. That’s your prerogative, but if it is then this isn’t the thread for you.
I’ll let you get back to reading Germaine Greer.
I’m not educated on the biology of the penis, but I have plenty of experience dealing with dicks, such as talking to ones like you on the internet.
You go girl.
Yeah. You go and get cervical cancer.
I agree with everything you said there, slinky. It’s comforting speaking to intelligent people like you online who truly get it.
I just wish there were more rational people like you.
aye,
You’re conflating being a dick with someone who gives factual information.
Um … this is a site about suicide. Calling people self-absorbed isn’t very compassionate. Let me guess, you’re a feminist.
How am I narrow-minded? Please expound. Assertions aren’t valuable unless upheld by some sort of evidence.
This is my thread, so that means I own it. I can dismiss you at any moment. Dismissed.
Fuck off back under the rock you crawled out from and take your useless dick with you.
Do you troll suicide sites like this a lot?
How’s that working out for you?

You go girl.”
White knight to the rescue. No argument, just white-knighting.
Turn a thread about a genitally mutilated man into a circle jerk for a feminist. Sounds about right for this society.
If that’s what you class as a good comeback, I seriously question your intellect.
question it all you want.
Good comeback? She insulted a suicidal man who feels depressed about his lack of genital tissue. If he had done the same to a mutilated female, you’d see this a lot differently. You are a mangina.
mangina, cool
“Oh, You want my Comeback? You’ll have to scrape it off your mum’s teeth.”
lolz
The force(kin) is weak with this post.
Cheers matey! 😎
Also – Lol at using Wiki as a reference point.
I have no idea what you just said.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
