”Life is sad. But it’s always beautiful”.
I bet you all can find some beauty in sadness, even beauty in a depressive lifestyle, don’t you? Being against all the world and it’s shallow and dull and futile happiness. Being unique. That’s what sadness is about… The reality is sad, and we see the reality as it really is – unlike the shallow happy people, whom live into an ilusion. But be cautious, my friends my brothers…
”Be careful with the sadness – it’s addictive.”
That’s from Gustave Flaubert. I’m sure there is a lot of addicts here. I was one too. I used ”real” drugs. I loved cocaine. But not anymore… And you should stop loving sadness – because it’s a drug. It’s a guilty pleasure. It’s a sadomasochistic pleasure… They say ”Cocaine is a hell of a drug”. But i think that – Sadness is a hell of a drug.
And I free myself from my vices. With love. That’s why I say this should be a place of love.
Love thyself. Love eachother. We can’t fight against love – it’s useless. I used to think self-love was repulsive, today is… just natural. I don’t make any effort to love myself. And I love you all – just because you’re part of the Universe.
”Peace. Love. Empathy”. (Kurt Cobain final words.)
Well…
The first quote is from a Godard movie – Pierrot Le Fou. Reality may be sad, but reality isn’t Life. Life is the skys, the sea, the sun, people talking to each other… Slushy, maybe? For sure… But we need a little bit of idioty to live. We need to be childish sometimes… And that’s healthy.
You know what is life?
”Life is what happens when your busy making other plans.”
John Lennon, now. What i am trying to say is… ”Give peace a chance”. To quote Lennon again.
Why all these quotes? Because…
”Art exists because life isn’t enough”.
That’s from Ferreira Gullar, a poet from my land, Brazil. And I say that because Art always help me. I always have felt more free when I was in contact with artworks. What all of you do here can be Art, too. It’s writing. It’s poetry. And the art from painting, books, music and poetry – woke me to the Art of living. Do you know Mutantes? They call it ”the brazilian beatles”. I think Mutantes it’s better than Beatles, haha. Send me message if you think Beatles are better than Mutantes. I love to discuss with people. ^^
As they say in one of their musics:
“Adeus, vou-me embora, meu bem.
“Chorar não ajuda ninguém.
“Enxugue o seu pranto de dor
“que a Seca mal começou… ”

Really? Sadness is addictive?
So you’re implying that millions of people just love being miserable…. even the ones that are forced to suicide because that’s the only way that they can escape it.
Sorry, not buying it.
I think your post was nice and inspirational, but also unrealistic.
People with chronic and severe clinical depression do, in fact, fall under the mentally ill category. They have as much choice about not being sad as a cow in line at a slaughterhouse has of not being butchered.
So nice post, but I’m afraid the problem runs far deeper than just making a choice to be happy at will.
Tristeza *sadness* was a metaphor 🙂
Hahaha… currently on the radio there is a debate running about depression being a terminal illness… It does have quite an addicting nature and often an irrevocable hold that is worse then every abusive substance put together, being a game of the mind… and that’s not something you can run away from…well not easily atleast.
Thanks for reading. And I don’t want you to accept all that I said. You should find your own fiction that makes sense to you. For I think even science is just a metaphor, as our human perception is not fully capable of perceive everything that exists in the world. Quantum mechanics, for instance, it’s a very solid example to corroborate that argument. And, for the records, I employed the word metaphor here in a metaphorical sense… I’m just a poet.
Sadnes can, truly, be an addiction. Til’ a breaking point and then it’s over.
