The police turn up at your house. Even when they don’t know where you live.
I called an urgent mental care health line trying to get some help with not hurting myself. The nurse quizzed me on my address because it might affect where I have my CBT. I felt like he wasn’t trying to talk sense into me and was instead just trying to fill out a form. I shouted at him asking him whether he was going to help me right now or not, and he said he needed my address for my long term care. I put the phone down on him. (I know it’s a bit irrational, but well, that’s where I am right now.)
I found a missed call later from them but didn’t bother – I didn’t feel like they would help me.
I filled out a complaint form on the council website.
A few hours later, the police turned up at my house. I’ve moved house and they don’t have my address. They had to call round my family to find out. My aunt dropped me off last week so she knew vaguely where I was, and the police knocked on all the doors around. Now all my family know I was close to ending it today, and my new housemate knows something is up. I’m so embarrassed.
They said I can go to the hospital, call 999, or 101, if I feel like that again. They offered to take me to hospital to talk to the ‘crash’ team, which is the crisis team. They said they would only section me if I was in immediate danger to myself. Also they didn’t want to make me miss out the big event I’m organising on Friday. They sat in my kitchen for an hour (I think) talking to me. Eventually they recommended that I go to bed early and have a good night’s sleep. (Why am I still awake…)
I can’t believe that the police came to check I was ok. I’ve never had such nice treatment from police before. I feel a bit safer, knowing that if there is one dickhead nurse out there, there is a whole network stretching to the other side of London that will pick up the slack. I’m just glad I got so angry that I wrote a complaint to the council instead of picking up a knife. What a lifesaver!

I’m glad talking to them was able to help you. This is what a psychologist or counsellor is for too and I really think you would benefit from that. I don’t know what it is like in your country, but you should be able to get a referral from a doctor. If it is covered by the government then that is great, if not then it is worth looking for a good and affordable place, and spending that little bit of money to save your live. Invest in yourself. Good luck, I can’t wait to read your success story.
I’ve had the police show up at my house a lot. It is very easy to convince them that I am safe. O only get carted off to the psych unit if my MD puts me on a 5150 (3 day psych hold here in the USA)…. I’m glad they didn’t cart you off and I would have hung up on the jerk too…
True. They showed up at my place quite a few times too and in most cases I convinced them that I was fine, although it was a lie of course. What I really hated though is that they asked me if I wanted to hurt myself in front of the door, so everybody heard them. Honestly, they should know more about privacy laws.
Im glad it went like this
