…they had state run suicide facilities? Wouldn’t it be gnarly? A place you could go and just be, “put to sleep”, like an animal at the vet. How many people would go? How many would go during a brief period of irrationality, or some other kind of temporary causal factor? Many people feel suicidal at one point or another, most don’t act upon these feelings. But if it were that easy then maybe

That’s actually an interesting thought. I know some states has assisted suicide, but that’s for the terminally ill. I do believe, like you said, too many people would take advantage of it. Maybe after a break-up or a job loss. I mean, you can always find a new lover or a new job, but what if the depression continues? What if we start to become like the Nazis and we approve the killing of those that are deemed a burden to society?
I suppose because part of the treatment of the mentally ill is to prevent them from committing suicide, they would never be able to be assisted in their deaths. Yet one can only wish a referral from a doctor could end the suffering for good….
I would do it, but I feel like it would be abused. Attention seekers and drama queens might get in a fight with their boyfriend or some shit and do it for attention. It would be nice for people struggling for over half my life like myself, though. There’s actually a book kind of like this thought called “The Project” by Suzanne Young. State run suicide prevention programs where they erase your memory completely. It’s honestly fucking crazy but one of the best books I’ve ever read. And there’s a good movie based on state-assisted suicide called “How to Die in Oregon”
