I have this theory that depression and suicidal mindset is part of an overall Population control plan. I mean the world really is over populated. It just is. We have way too many people and too many people brings a negative impact on the world that we live in. So my theory is that Mother Nature > is reacting to the over population of humans on the planet by emitting something in the air that causes a lot of people to become depressed and suicidal. This is just a theory of mine… so dont get all up and arms about it. But I think there is something to this theory. I mean a long time ago when the world was not so densely populated it seemed that most people just got along fairly well. Now that we have a crazy amount of people on the planet…. we have more and more depressed and suicidal people.
I truly think this is part of mother natures self preservation mechanism. Doesn’t it make sense? If there are too many people and not enough food and not enough jobs and so forth…. then well Mother nature just starts to rev up the Natural Population control by emitting something in the air that causes a lot of people to become depressed and suicidal. and if that is the case > then isn’t suicide a natural thing to do? Its just a theory I have been kicking around this morning as I am having my coffee.
But I dont in anyway want to encourage anybody to end their life.
I wish you all the best
hang in there folks

the issue is not overpopulation of humans on this planet, its the way of life & society that is causing depletion of resources and creating more waste that it can be decomposed in same time.
You make a good point. Yeah, I think we need to find a way to clean up our own mess so we dont destroy the environment… we need cleaner forms of energy and better ways to recycle what we throw away. thanks for contributing to the post
I hope you don’t mind a differing idea here. Honestly, I don’t believe that people used to get along better or suffer less depression. I know there is a hypothesis out there that cavemen didn’t suffer from depression, but the way the researchers came up with that idea is extremely flimsy (not all research is well done).
However, as far as illnesses being population control I suppose that would also apply to physical illnesses, especially those that are severe and cause a lot of death. And yet these same things make a species stronger, which in turn makes them more likely to propagate. Looking only at physical diseases, most of them (with the rare exception, like the Spanish Flu of the early 20th century) take out the weakest and most vulnerable members of society leaving the stronger ones behind. These diseases cause people to eventually develop immunities and they trigger an evolutionary response, so at the same time they’re killing some people they’re strengthening others. Plus, if a lack of resources causes a massive die-off that means more resources for those who survived so that they can become stronger and start having more offspring again.
We humans do seem to have reached a population that doesn’t seem healthy, and I agree with cold_sleep that our lifestyle is likely a larger problem than our numbers. If we really are overpopulating the planet nature will catch up eventually and a large number of people will probably end up dying.
Disclaimer: I have not done a lot of in-depth reading of scientific research on this subject.
I just realized that I made it sound like I am unaware of the fact that nature sometimes causes the complete extinction of an entire species. Yeah, that happens.
Ahh, but isn’t that what make modern suicide statistics so fascinating?
For example, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S.
Also google ‘British male suicide’ for other interesting material.
Your theory reminds me very much of the plot of The Happening.
*the movie “The Happening.”
Oh wow, it does.
Nice to see you, whiskered.
Thanks. Good to see you too.
Im gonna get that movie and watch it.
thanks

i’m your buddy 🙂 and as your buddy i can tell you what i think!!! 🙂 see what happens when you have a buddy!! i’m not going to tell you that it is impossible just for the fact you through mother nature into the mix, anything is possible with her, she is a real *****, i would like to bend her over and do her the wrong way!! 🙂 but i don’t think that theory is what’s going on, actually i believe it’s opposite, we humans boy’s and girls!! have this irresistible desire to mate and have offspring, that’s what mother nature want’s! we are a unique different species of predators, yes we are predators! we kill to survive and we multiply according to plan, but we have a brain that is far different than other predators, we evolved into the best! nothing on this planet comes close to us! we are ideal in the the eye’s of mother nature!! she’s saying GOD DAM THESE GUYS ARE GOOD! But we also have the ability to reason and think and dream, she’s saying no! no! don’t kill yourself!! your job is to survive! devour and kill and multiply!!! so really were working against her, she’s not trying to control us, she doesn’t care if we over populate the planet, she wants us to devour everything! survival of the fittest, and finally destroy our self’s and or something else kills us and takes over, a predator doesn’t have to be a bigger stronger animal, just a new strain of decease that wipes us out, a meteor! everything and everyone is doomed because something comes along to devour us for energy, we because we are so depressed think the whole world is like us, it’s not, statistics will show us that, the amount of people that kill themselves is really a gain of salt against the amount that don’t, however that doesn’t mean everyone is happy but us! we are a special breed, we know things others haven’t learned, we are not stupid, we know that life is cruel, we were dealt a bad hand, we need to stay in the game to see the next hand, it might be better it might be worse but it’s our job to deal with it as best we can. always try to think positive and try to improve our situations, we don’t want to go quietly and just give in, because it’s really our only chance to think to talk to feel something to scheme to plan. once were dead it’s back to nothingness, which is a good thing to but lets not rush it, nothingness last for billions trillions of years our lives last for 74 years if were lucky. yes this went all over this pace again, we could write a novel.
I’m often amazed at the problems we humans invent merely because we have the ability. Because we are allowed to. If we were simply surviving (food & shelter), many problems would simply evaporate.
