I was online reading about things of self harm. And I came across sex as a form of self harm. I can kind of understand why it could be but I’m still not 100% sure, why it is.

besides the obvious that sex can be physically hurtful depending on what methods a person is choosing
it can also be mentally, emotionally hurtful,
and if something is done with deliberate intent to hurt and/or punish one self, physical or psychological, it is self-harm.
this doesn’t mean bondage or sm and such, is automatically considered self-harm, since other aspects are in play there
and it doesn’t even have to be that deliberate,
a person might do something for a momentarily relief, the goal is “good”, but inadvertently hurt themselves in the process, like heroin, doesn’t really mean the person thinks of himself as self harming, but he might still be harming him self because he has lost control of it,
just because someone else says you are hurting yourself doesn’t necessarily mean you are self harming, but nor does it mean just because one don’t believe themselves to be self harming that they aren’t…
a lot of people just know and realize their self harm because they have actual intent
might be why cutting seem so clear and dry obvious, while a little “innocent” sex requires a deeper assessment to oneself.
some cut, some do drugs, some fuck, some eat, the ways to hurt, to punish, or to feel something, anything, or nothing, is endless, and the person usually find someway to achieve their goal, obvious to see or not…
What i’m going to write now is absoluely not ment to shock people, just to give an answer on the question. I’m born blind, my parents didn’t want a blind child and my childhood was horror. Been locked in a cellar in my own shit for 6 weeks, beeing beaten up and much more. For me sex is absolutely selfharm because i can only have sex whili fantasizing about beeing in that cellar again, with the one i have sex with(because i need to imagine she would not leave me alone even there) but i also have fanasies about torture or beeing in hell with the ones i had sex with. I cheated(did much more but it’s about sex as selfharm now) to make sure i would end up in hell. So yes, sex is used by me to show me how worthless i am, to feed my selfhate, to make me feel disgusting/bad/worthless/hellworthy. To be honest i never had sex in a way it builded me/gave me love/good feelings about myself. The ones i had sex with don’t know what i think/feel, i absolutely don’t harm them with it, only myself.

Can we just clear one thing up here bondage and S&M are not forms of self harm (I apologize in advance if I misundertood you) it is headspace created by two entirely trusting (if not then its completely reckless and perhaps is a combination of selfharm and or abuse) consenting adults with a connection noone else could even begin to comprehend. Its very special and very hard to find.
And in answer to the question, yes, absolutely sex can be used as self harm.

but the issue is probably that many uninformed tend to think of those parts more as the “self harm sex” in their minds, since “spanking, bondage and alike might as well = beating/abuse, right?”, when any and all types of sex can be equally used so,
not to mention the prudes that automatically disregard it in some/whatever way because “reasons”, thus, it’s “wrong”
Here is my opinion. A normal sex life is NOT self harm. Like if you have a Bf or Gf and just have a normal private sex life with them in private > its not self harm
but some people Go off the deep end with certain types of sexual behavior… like multiple partners, being sexually promiscuous with many people, or maybe into bondage or rough sex or some other form of weird thing that could put them in harms way. so in cases like that YES sex can become a self harming thing

I think it is. Like for example to female, it could get them to get unplanned pregnancy. It was listed in borderline personality disorder as one of an example of self harm
Sexual promiscuity is considered high risk behavior and where it can lead to disease if you blatantly and consciously refuse to use protection, yeah that is self harm right there.
