Why are people so shitty? And no, humans are NOT wonderful people. People are selfish and vile, and have no compassion for others. I’m talking real compassion, real feelings, or lack thereof. People smile and put on a phony face, say nice and good things, but inside, oh inside, we are really something else. We are vile and hateful and shitty to our fellow man. We hate others for no reason, other than sheer bigotry and just pure hate. We see starving children and say, “fuck ’em, they need to pull their asses out of their bootstraps.”
You think that’s an exaggeration? No, not at all. Last night I watched a sad documentary about children in poverty- in the US. They profiled 3 families- showed the lives of the children and experiences through their eyes and their own words, instead of focusing on the adults like most documentaries. There has been many documentaries on poverty with numbers and stats, but nobody cares. Showing the hardships of the jobless and homeless and still nobody cares. This one was just showing the lives of the children in poverty and what they have to go through- not talking about polities or politics or whatnot- just filmed what the kids have to go through and let these kids speak as they are.
And guess what? Literally hundreds of comments by people saying “oh well they don’t have it THAT bad, other people have it way worse” – like it helps these kids living in hunger feel better that they get ONE or TWO meal a days vs every other day that other kids in other places have to live with. Saying that other people have it way worse does not help THIS hungry kid. So why do people say that shit? Because they can turn their backs and not feel bad. Or do nothing to help. Because if *other* people have it way worse, well, why bother helping or feeling bad at all?
Or, well, the parents look fat so they obviously look like they have no problems getting food- despite the fact that the documentary clearly shows these kids saying they’re hungry and keeps asking their parents when they can eat and the parents say “we can’t yet, there’s no food until…” They show these kids looking for cans to recycle- 5c for a non-squished can and 2c for a flattened can- so they can scrounge some money. But no, they don’t have it “that bad.”
There are a few comments remarking how smart some of the kids are- and how aware they are of their situation. There’s a FEW of those, followed by a TON of “no, these kids are stupid, they’re clearly stupid and they’ll get nowhere in life.” Wow, really? Bashing these little kids- they’re like 5 to 9 years old. Now, I don’t believe in propping up every kid just cuz they’re a kid- hate that crap- but one them was really eloquent for a little child. The other 2 seemed intelligent enough to understand their situation and spoke at a normal level for kids their age. And then for tons of ADULTS to bash them for not speaking better- whilst these arseholes bashing the little kids about their intelligence and grammar can’t even spell properly. Seriously, idiot American adults need to learn proper grammar and how to spell before you can bash anyone else. And then take a course in empathy.
Of course, lots of comments on how these parents are just lazy, or stupid, or “it’s their own fault they can’t find a job” or just “not trying hard enough” when the documentary CLEARLY shows that all 3 families had working parent(s) and all 3 had lost their jobs (2 lost their jobs and the 3rd couple had owned a business and was doing really well, but then the economy tanked and they first lost their business, then their home). And plenty of people saying, “oh look, they are just lazy,” “they just haven’t looked hard enough”, etc etc.
Blame the poor starving kids and their parents. Because if you’re poor in America, it is YOUR fault, and not the fault of greedy corporations who keep people in poverty with depressingly low wages. No, never the fault of greedy assholes. Blame the mother/father/starving kids.
Yes, I know YouTube comments is cancer. But it is a reflection of what people really think and feel. Because it’s online, people are able to show what they genuinely think unfiltered. People say what they really think. What they can’t say out loud in person. The REAL person- and not just the nice, awesome, sweet, caring person who people portray themselves to be. In a way, YouTube comments is more real than talking to people face to face, because people lie in public and they mask who they really are. They show their true selves online. And that’s the thing- the shitty people online are the real people, not the phony nice “hello, how are you”, “oh you look wonderful” fake dribble people spout in public.

Hey eternaldarkness
Just quickly checked up on the site and wanted to share my two cents.
Yes, I think you’re right. Actions by people online show their true selves, and that can often be shitty. However, I don’t think we can call the whole human race shitty, because of assholes on comment threads. Also, there are thousands of people that watched that video, and moved on without thinking shitty things and without commenting. They are the majority, not the people that took time to write shitty things on a video’s comment section.
Anyway, I hope you’re doing fine, fine as a person can be considering “things”.
Hey SadPotato, how are you doing? Haven’t seen you here on SP as much? Well I’ve been on less often myself…
Anyhow, the thing is, it isn’t just this one documentary and the comments, or equally shitty comments on other videos. It’s just, there’s SO MUCH shittiness in this world, so many shitty things that people do. I get that not EVERYONE is shitty, but I feel like 95% of humans are. In the news, what I see just going to the store or crossing the street, in my own life, people I know, all the people I’ve ever known, just everything, not just YouTube comments. If it were just that, that’d be fine.
I’m doing alright. Yeah, just wanted to check on the site. Waves come and go, and I felt that it was my time to go again.
Yes, I understand. There are many people who are shitty. However, I think the problem is that shittiness is eye catching. You notice people being shitty and it sticks in your mind. On the other hand, we don’t notice people just going about their lives. The majority of people are in between, they just want to live their lives. Most people are flawed and have moments of shittiness, but they also have moments of kindness. But like I said, that doesn’t catch our attention.
Go on any council estate up and down Britain and you will see poverty. Sure, it’s not as bad as a slum in Brazil, or maybe as terrifying as living in an African City like Mogadishu but it’s still fucked up.
An endless cycle of imprisoned fathers, drug dealing, neglected kids and forgotten people in general.
The cycle perpetuates as these same kids know no different.
To compare one persons suffering to another and say ‘they have no right to feel this way’ cause x has it worse, is bull.
I had it bad as a kid. Reading some other peoples posts on here alone is…well heartbreaking to be fair. But because they saw some fucked up shit , i should feel good about myself and stop whining?
i saw a similar programme to yourself a few months ago, it was about Fathers in prison and followed the kids around as they went about there day to day. Sad as fuck. They knew no different and for me the worst thing was the confusion on ther faces. Fucking hell, they’re supposed to make sense of this world. I can’t make sense of this world.
You already know my thoughts on corporations and Government. They’ve got enough to spend on war, yet whole families live paycheck to paycheck and rely on food banks to eat.
I hear they still haven’t fixed the water over there in Flint Michigan? But they’re gearing up for another conflict somewhere – Syria/ Russia/ Iran/ whoever they decide the boogeyman is i guess.
I know deep down, not all people are bad. But i just don’t wanna invest my time and effort into this world for nothing. It’s like using a bucket to bail out a sinking cruise liner.
Yes i am apathetic. But i really don’t care anymore. Just let me gtfo.
Sorry, my post is all over the place as usual, without coming to any real conclusions about anything…an analogy for my entire life i guess.
Right, when people say “x people have it worse than you/them” it just a way to invalidate someone’s pain or problems so they don’t have to think or deal with it, be it poverty or depression or whatever else.
Yup, we have BILLIONS of dollars for throwing bombs at other countries and killing and maiming innocent civilians, but you want us to FEED the poor so they don’t starve here? No way! There’s no money in that! You want us to FIX the shitty pipes? Why, these people are either poor or black, usually both, and there’s no money in that, so fuck ’em!
There’s actually a study out there that showed there’s actually a HOME for literally every single person in America- if you’re talking strictly ALL the housing that is already here and built. But greedy banks and corporations and landowners and crooked politicians make it so that half the people here are starving or surviving paycheck to paycheck, and unable to afford rent/mortgage/food.
Yeah, it’s hard to think well of the human race when you see all this shit exists.
honestly eternal, i think this world is a charade. A game. A complete rollercoaster of emotion sucking nonsense. I wish someone would spike all the different water supplies of all the world at the same time and everyone could trip their (insert genitalia’s) off.
Maybe we would come to a conclusion similar to Bill Hicks’s “it’s just a ride” or even something far greater.
But since the twats in charge would try to avoid this at all costs and continue the neverending ‘war on drugs” nonsense. I guess the worlds always gonna be like this.
Maybe thats my purpose in life? to do this?
Maybe i’ll see you tomorrow if the men in black don’t arrest me tonight.
Excuse me for a second, there’s 2 vans outside…One say’s ‘Flowers By Irene’ and the other one’s ‘Cars International Associates’
Back in a mo.
The poor, the middle class, the masses- we are just pawns. I wish to partake in none of yet. Sadly, I have no choice in the matter. Was brought into this world without my permission, and am not given a viable option out.
For years i’ve gone down many different rabbit holes. Hoping to find truth at the end of the tunnel.
I can’t even get an answer on my own life, let alone the meaning of life. As i post tonight, i realise now that it’s all coming to a head. I can’t take this bs life anymore. I’ll never be at peace as long as i live on this wretched fucking planet.
Pawns , yes thats all we are and all we ever will be. And like the old quotes go from those tossers who think they are the ‘elite’ or by means of wealth..”don’t rise above your station”
“Don’t ask questions” , “don’t upset the status quo.”
Been thinking of the ‘ants’ video you put up. “what if they work out that together we can change / challenge their authority”?
Don’t worry, i’m not about to commit Guerrilla Warfare against my local Mcdonalds. Or join Scientology. Or join a cult. A few more years of this shit though and i’ll make Koresh seem like fucking Ghandi.
“Been thinking of the ‘ants’ video you put up. “what if they work out that together we can change / challenge their authority”?”
-> Don’t worry- people rarely are bright enough to figure that out, or band together to do anything about it. Maybe once in a few hundred years there’s a revolt. But mostly we wretched humans stick our heads in the sand, swallow their propaganda whole, and “just do as we’re told.” People will never change. Look at history. We see the same things repeating over and over. The definition of madness.
Well put!! Total TRUTH!!
If people wanna act shitty/say unkind stuff, it’s on them, but please don’t assume that EVERYONE is like that.
Also, groupthink/hive mind is real. A societal culture can actually train their citizens how to think and how to react/respond. If your parents/siblings/teachers/friends/TV shows, etc., told you it’s not nice to say unpleasant things about others, you’ll grow up not even thinking it, and feeling uncomfortable when others are rude and judgmental. If the opposite, then yeah, you might think you’re being funny if you act like a judgmental prick, because you were accustomed to hanging out with people who harshly judge others and weren’t taught to try to be empathetic.
I never said that ALL humans are shitty, but there sure is a lot of them.
All you can do is not reproduce and bring another poor bastard into this nightmare.
YouTube comments were always full of the most racist, vile cunts. These people are even more outspoken now because of their leader Chump. I don’t even feel comfortable in my own state. You try to speak out about certain things, but people will only look at you like you are crazy or look at you like you’re whining and trying to pull the “race card”. It’s hard not to hate others when you know how they really are.
Although i agree with you on the ‘youtube comments’ for me it works both ways.
I spend most of my days on youtube listening / watching clips and especially old songs. I like the stories people tell on there. Like “this song was played at x funeral” and “this is what i was doing at this time”
Also, i’ve come across some real nuggets of wisdom on there.
But…the vile shit that people speak on there, often you hope they are actually trolling because the things they write down can be ‘a little disappointing’
It is like you say even more disconcerting when these thoughts on youtube / other boards are repeated in public. Some people are robots i think. I believe some of the shit they spout they don’t even believe themselves tbh.
And you’re right, it’s not just YouTube videos. It’s social media. It’s message boards. It’s everywhere.
