Often, a valid assumption. Seems to be just the way we’re wired as humans.
It’s like politicians – they’ll call each other “corrupt thieving pedophiles” on the campaign trail, and “wonderful loving dedicated pillars of humanity” at each other’s funerals.
Death alters our perspectives, reactions and behaviors, while almost dying tends to make us say “Hmmm. . .that was close. I wonder what’s on tv.”
Suicide and attempted suicide I think fall into different categories of “allowable reaction”. We have to behave differently in both situations. Attempted suicide means we must bow our heads and wonder why, but since there’s no terminal outcome and life continues, well, we just kind of “continue” as though everything is going to be normal again very soon. Succesful suicide, on the other hand, places us in the arena of appropriate reaction to a death: Sadness, questioning, grief, mourning, ritual and movement towards closure. The behaviors in both situations are different because of the protocols we have established.
So true… you tried to kill yourself oh well your still here. Wait you f**k heads when One of these attempts actually pulls through… I want to see your faces. You going to cry?! We’re wer you when I was crying asking for help?!?!?!?!
Because, the under stimulating environment we’ve grown acclimated to prevents us from acting in the emotionally charged way that the suicidal and depressed demand, due to our brains being wired in such a way so that humans can only react to news which shocks us. News of depression, the lack of emotion, will not elicit strong emotions from anyone, because it is the lack thereof. People are sentimental creatures and communicate as such, even if your statement is valid, any underlying emotion will first be mentally addressed, that is the way that people are. It is not any individual’s fault, blame biology.
Do not lament over something you cannot change. You cannot force anyone to feel anything that isn’t genuine. Nor can you force the populace to have thoughts that are not commonplace by shaking your heads in accordance about it with a negligible audience.

I heard a comedian, possibly Dennis Leary although I can’t be sure, describing our reaction to tv news, saying something like “Who cares if someone did something nice, dammit, I wanna see bodies, piled up, with blood pouring out. . . ” and I’ll stop there, because I’m not trying to recreate the humor he was, but rather agreeing that yes, we are so acclimated to utter devastation that anything less is just . . . killing time until the real show starts. Sad.
Allowing the small tragedies to go unnoticed is what leads to large tragedies. Human fallback.
Mundane tragedy drives us to insanity, while divine comedy drives us to prosperity. Comedy is concise and concentrated absurdity. Laughter is the psychological sublimation of the resulting awe.
Being in awe over the absurdity of it all would be a break in the illusion of control, wouldn’t it. And that would cause concern. So we laugh in order to align ourselves with the rest of the species in our endeavor to laugh it all off. Laughing is how we condense the abominable and exquisite horror of the reality around us into a palatable form, and presents an opportunity for us to package our observations in a marketable way.
Dear Fighting-For-Good, If you have someone like that in your life, run away from them as fast as you can!
I did, my older brother, who always was like a father figure (trusted) to me.
For years I’ve had him knocking me down, actually even telling me to go kill myself, and sadly I was too depressed or in chaos during those times to realize how unbelievably abusive + cruel he was acting (still is).
Doesn’t matter but we’re in our 50’s.
Nobody, any age, deserves to be treated that way.
If you think somebody wants ” to get rid of you”,
I’m certain they are having a very negative influence on your life.
RUN!

Because humans are animals and can’t control the amount of exertion they have over their emotions. Not truly.

Yes. It’s “inappropriate” to step in with intervention until asked. But that is just human nature.
