How would you describe Earth, it’s inhabitants, and human life to it?
Ex: Ants are described as living in colonies, with a Queen, worker ants, etc.
If you had to describe humans / human life to an Alien, how would it describe it?
We are a bipedal species that have recently evolved to the point of beginning space exploration. I don’t expect we would be too much different than other species evolved to the same point. We are very diverse and unfortunately then, very confrontational still. But for every flaw you see there is also something wonderful and we can be very compassionate as well. There is no centralized point of contact for the species as a whole so you will get drastically different views depending on where your landing. We enjoy entertainment through art, music, theatre, food, sport, comedy and gaming. We debate politics & religion. We explore and philosophize. But we do not think with one mind, so you would be ill served judging us based on any individual contact or event. Welcome. Can I catch a ride?
If you viewed humans as a superorganism, or an organic whole, the only impression you could possibly come to is that we are a very schizoaffective entity. We are wildly conflicted within ourselves, indecisive to the point of catatonia, have severe anxiety and anger disorders, and are as self destructive as a suicide box, just in a more elaborate way.
Human beings individually are a microcosm of the whole, and suffer from the same flaws and failings. We have a propensity to adopt superstitious beliefs so often that we may not even know we’re doing it, and we can flounder from the heights of optimism to the depths of pessimism so quickly you’ll get vertigo. Despite being wildly conflicted between individuals, each individual is still very easily swayed by the perceived opinions of the overall group, as we each vie to reflect each other and establish some semblance of intimacy and connection. This causes our anxiety beneath the surface, and that anxiety can manifest in outbursts of conflict as we battle over control of the opinions of others. We can’t seem to quit acting like children in this way.
Please. For the love of all that is good and wholesome. Make us stop. It’s so exhausting.
A species dependent upon one another for survival yet one that struggles between the needs and desires of the individual vs those of the social structure and ecology upon which it depends. Fluctuating symbiosis between interests of the self/the other/the family unit/the tribe/the region/the country/the continent/the world. A species capable of great innovation and good as well as destruction; both loving and merciless. Both myopic and farsighted. Constant flux.
