this was me at work. why do people judge? does it bother you as well when people judge?

by sadlife958

So what I want to dress as a character, as a fan of something that I enjoy that makes me happy and you know what I’m actually smiling in this picture because I don’t care what people think just because I’m wearing a Dragonball Z shirt a hat, key chain or w.e who cares my job at work is getting done the way it’s supposed to be done! so why do people judge us? And why were they giving me that look like I’m some insane freak when I just keep quiet and just do my job and say a little jokes here and there just to keep the Vibe going but these people just ruin our days when they give that mistreatment like we’re some freaks

Doesn’t a lot of us here who have depression suffer from of the way people treat us or look at us because of something that we like that’s just different ahh go figure. I’m sure the people who give us those looks have something also that is much much more different than this anyways anime is mainstream

I have been so judged and so harassed at work places because child abuse had left me in a very detached looking state. Like yourself, I was getting the job done. I have skills that are hard to find and were decently compensated and when I would leave those jobs, one after another, to escape the incessant harassment, it cost me a lot and cost them even more. I now work in two very small family businesses and all they care about is be excellent to one another and get the job done. Yes!

sadlife958 11/16/2017 - 7:40 pm

Nice I’m so glad you found a comfortable place for to work at. I worked in a restaurant that was family owned my uncle had it great environment and everything but I just had it found it difficult to deal with customers in that stuff it wasn’t too much judging but still I had to get so much involved that I had to like Shield my loneliness anxiety so much I had to hide it and show passion and stuff I don’t like to do all that especially all that smiles and giggle when I really know that it’s fake. my job here where I’m currently working at is a lot better it’s much better than other places Ive worked before even though the people do judge me wrongfully here but it’s better than the other places so I’m not complaining too much which is probably why I’m more comfortable dressing up like this at work

Oh I see. You are comfortable enough there to be a bit non-conforming and of course people are inclined to make comments. Working at a restaurant, in any capacity, would be way way out of my comfort zone.

Dude, tell me about it! I love platinum hair so I dyed my hair until my parents forced me to dye it black. So I bought a wig and I really love to use it. I love to wear my contact lenses, my wig and play with a really pretty umbrella I have. Whenever I’m with those three things I feel so happy, I feel like I’m the real me, but people always stare at me! Some in admiration, some judging me incorrectly. And because of poor judgement I can’t wear my outfit every day, but when I get to do it… oooh I get so happy! So I think your shirt is awesome and you shouldn’t be ashamed, in fact a lot of people here in my country wear anime t-shirts and backpacks. But yeah, I understand you. People can be so ignorant! How does a shirt affect what you’re doing? I can’t understand people sometimes.
Oh and I forgot to mention, I worked as a translator from my house so I didn’t really need to worry about my looks, and I would have worn my outfit if it wasn’t for my parents /:

sadlife958 11/16/2017 - 8:53 pm

Really? I think platinum hair looks attractive! Also it doesn’t look inappropriate at all. I mean IDK where your from but my parents are from the Europe in the Balkans and they are old fashioned and strict as hell. My father passed when I was 17 and I remember how mad he would get about my collectables like my resin anime statues and that stuff. Very annoying, may god rest his soul. Plus me dieng my hair I’d be thrown out the house. I wanted to die my hair either platinum or white since my hair is slowly going white. I’m 26 btw and every month I’m noticing single layers of my hair going from black to white

kamidaka 11/16/2017 - 10:02 pm

Thank you so much! I’ll try to dye it again before I die. And also, tell me about it! (again lol) My parents are also very strict, and they hate anime because idk I think they see how happy anime makes me feel, so I do cosplay, but every time I buy something or make something for my cosplay I have to hide it otherwise they get very mad.
Man that sounds cool! I would love to have my hair turn white naturally, I saw people that got some white sections in their hair due to stress, but when I get stressed my hair just falls, it never turns white. I hope you’ll dye it someday! I bet it would look good on you.
Ah and I’m from South America.

Aw Thanks a lot! Oh I love cosplay I remember making a post last year of my costume. I had a white wig on playing the character from Fate/Zero it was for Halloween and out of 100+ employees at my job only 3 people were dressed for Halloween hahahaha the looks they gave me were not enough to stop me from rocking what I love, my family was so-so about it I guess because it was Halloween. I live and im born in America to but in the north. Definitely I bet Platinum would look great on you & I appreciate it I counted 10-15 layers of white hair around my head. Yep stress was the cauae it sucks that yours falls of from stress rather than change color (hair & nails is nothing more than a modified skin) I’m not sure but do you wear hats maybe that could be the reason why your hair falls. Tell me about it we should just die our hairs the color that we want we got nothing to lose I never died my hair before but I do plan to end things very soon. Why do parents make freedom/happiness so difficult ahh and people at work to everyone should understand that anime is 100% mainstream and the cosplaying characters is so much fun looks great while we’re still young who wouldn’t want to be someone else besides me being me.

It does bother me when people judge. Especially since they don’t really know you. Most of them don’t even take the time to try and get to know what you are about.

When they judge, it hurts and they understand that very well. So, I’ve decided to ignore that kind of behavior.
It’s not the end of the world if I am disliked. It’s unpleasant, yes, but I would rather be on my own than hang around people who think nothing of hurting me just for the heck of it.

sadlife958 11/17/2017 - 9:02 am

No they just find it so much easier to judge you then to try to get some understand you it’s like their little entertainment you know people always need a reason to gossip about someone especially especially when I am not associated with any of those groups but there are people who like me and they all tell me “don’t pay attention to them” you always going to find people who like you. there has to be them out there if you’re not hurting nobody and you’re not attacking anyone you’re just living your life and being yourself someone is going to have your back, if not then oh well then it’s just back to Me Myself and I

Timel3ssDecay 11/17/2017 - 4:31 pm

Yeah, I guess there is something about gossiping that is very alluring to people; Talking about somebody behind their back.
Especially when you don’t associate with them.

Yeah, usually, at some point, you find people who like you. But, in my case, they are few and far between.

On the subject of “being yourself”, that is where I encounter the most resistance and hostility.
I think people who behave like hypocrites, do so, out of fear and maybe cowardice?

In your case, they judged you because of what you wore to work. Could it be because they don’t have the courage to wear what they really enjoy? And since they couldn’t do it, you shouldn’t have the right to wear what you want either?

sadlife958 11/17/2017 - 5:25 pm

Hippocrates LOL I definitely believe it’s because they don’t have the courage to wear anything that’s similar to what I enjoy and definitely not if they couldn’t do it that’s their problem as long as I’m doing good as long as it’s not something that is against anybody and plus Dragonball Z is not racist nor does it promote any illegal activity so upon what they think and what they feel I have every right to wear it the only thing that backfires is I got to deal with those eyes but that’s okay there are other employees who don’t mind it but I was Disturbed the way people were looking at me when I wore this so I was like you know what this is something I should share. I’m sure there’s a shirt that someone loves that they are afraid to wear because they’re worried what others may think same like a sweater

spectralgiraffe 11/17/2017 - 2:24 am

Why do people judge……? Because society is screwed up

sadlife958 11/17/2017 - 5:05 am

I agree Big time I could care less what a person wears or does as long as its non-threatnening & to themselves. Ignorance is a better way to put it
