What do you think? Are people really listening, paying attention, immersed in reality, wanting to know what is going on? My opinion is that no, they’re not. Why?
most people are self centered and consumed with their own selves, in many cases, no longer even having the ability to do so, thus… they have lost touch with reality,,,,
Politics. . . beats me, other than we love playing the blame game, and nowhere is it done better than in that circus. As for news, we crave death and destruction, thrive on gloom and fear, followed by these messages from our sponsors. “If it bleeds, it leads” is the motto of the industry. A good caveat would be “. . . because you people need it.”

That’s what I was thinking. Easy to direct your anger at other people than work on your own flaws.

Good point. There’s also an optimism bias where people think those things would never happen to them or someone they care about.
I also think people are generally comfortable with their lives. They’ll complain about things on social media but they’re too complacent to actually hit the streets and start a revolution if it came to it.
Aren’t we all completely out of touch with reality from time to time? The other day, I woke up in a total haze. I can’t even remember the first half of the morning, I was so tired. I only came to my senses to realize I was feeling slightly boozy from the irish creme I had unintentionally put in my coffee, and there was a cat attached to my leg. I wound up calling off work and going back to sleep because it could only go downhill from there.
I read this a long time ago, and it really resonated with me.
“People don’t listen, they just wait for their turn to talk.” hell, that thought even crossed my mind today, when one of my close friends completely blew off something very serious that I was talking about to talk about herself. It’s incredibly infuriating, but that’s why I’m grateful I found this site- I feel like most, if not everyone, here actually take the time to read what others have to say and keep in touch.

Very few people are listening. They may “pay attention”, but they’re not listening.
I agree

Yeah
Why are they so consumed with the news and politics though? I have my thoughts on why, just wondering what other people think.
