Sometimes you just gotta feel something. I’ve self harmed before, didn’t like the attention that it brought with it. So I decided cold ass water might do the trick.
It fucking sucks at first. You feel like you can’t handle it. You start taking deep breaths and panic a bit because you’re shocking your system. But then you realize you can feel your whole body and your heart beating fast and you feel alive.
I take my regular shower first, then when I’m ready to rinse, I gradually lower the temperature till I can hardly stand it, then stick it our for a couple of minutes.
Turns out, there are a variety of pretty sweet health benefits from doing this, I recommend checking ’em out.
Personally, I feel like I’ve accomplished something afterwards. I feel more alert, and have a genuine smile on my face when I get out of the shower.
I know it’s a small thing, but small things add up. Hope it helps you the way it’s helped me.

Wow that’s great. I don’t think I could withstand the cold though, otherwise I’d try it too.
You’d be surpised how quickly you adapt. At first I could only do it for about 10 seconds but now I stay under for much longer at a much colder temp, it’s actually kind of addicting. Really addicting. It feels similar to a runners high but better. Definitely a rush.

I know it’s kind of cheesy but the thought “if I can get through this there’s so much other shit I can get through” goes through my head when I’m doing it, and it makes you feel like maybe you can handle things.
How long did it take before you didn’t mind the cold anymore? Weeks? After 10x? And when did it become addicting? After a month? 20x?
I’m a chicken when it comes to cold showers. Hm, maybe I’ll do hot, then cold for a few seconds, then back to hot. As long as I end with hot it won’t be so bad.
I mean it’s always a shock, you just start to enjoy it. It used to be a “okay okay just get it over with” battle when I’d look at the knob but now it’s more like a challenge and I’m excited to play the game, see where my limits are. I’d say after 5-10 times it started being enjoyable, it’s actually my favorite part of my shower now, and I lovee super hot showers. I let it run on the top of my head first for a bit, then spin around and have the water hit different spots till each spot feels unbearable. Like if it’s on my head too long I swear I get a brainfreeze, then I’ll move my hair and let it get my neck and it’s a whole new sensation. It feels electric. Feels best on your face. I wouldn’t recommend turning the water back to hot at the very end, because the feeling of your body heating itself back up is a trippy sensation of it’s own. Your super energized but feel warmth spreading from your chest outward to your extremities. It really does feel like a high.
