Fermi paradox – Our galaxy contains millions of stars and planets, many of which were formed millions of years before Earth and yet we can´t observe any super-inteligent alien civilizations.
So one day I was watching an interview with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and he said something like this: We humans differ in about 1% of DNA from chimps. In that one % there is everything that makes us human. Society, culture, inventions, art etc.. Now imagine aliens that are another 1% smarter than us. What amazing things would they be capable of?
As soon as I heard that a disturbing thought came to my mind. Would these creatures actually even want to exist? Consider this: humans are the only animals capable of suicide (there are some exeptions of animals killing themselves but they are very very rare) and the smarter you are the more likely it is that you kill yourself. Depression, social anxiety, self despise etc. – these are only human trades. Remember when I said that 1% is everything that makes us human? Yea. Imagine having another extra 1% of that… Also when you know practicaly everything what is the point of living? The universe and everything has no meaning after all (my personal opinion).
What do you think about this? Definitely let me know.

whats ur problem bruh
Regarding the Fermi Paradox, which I believe is the dumbest scientific proposal since abiogenesis (spontaneous creation of maggots when you mix dirty gym socks and mold), it’s like saying “There are so many beaches in the world, and so many people drop their wallets on the beach, WHY HAVEN’T I FOUND A WALLET.” And the answer should be pretty obvious: it’s because your lazy ass isn’t looking anywhere except 2 feet around you.
Regarding the idea the humans are the only living organism to commit suicide, I’ll remind you that basically EVERY ANIMAL IN NATURE commits suicide, by starvation, at the end of their lives. Humans are just so stupid and lazy we need skyscrapers and guns. But trust me, the suicide rate in nature is close to 100% not including those who get killed or eaten.
Every animal in nature commits suicide? what? u trippin
How is it suicide if you get eaten 😀
i mean most of animals get fkin eaten so how the suicide rate is close to 100%
I do hate to point out that we are searching pre hard for alien life…. Mostly the Fermi paradox is due to not seeing any alien megaengineering, which we should see.
The Drake equation suggests that there should be something like 3 type 2 civilizations in our local group at least…. The Fermi Paradox mostly just asks why we don’t observe this. The most likely solution is just due to these civs not existing and possibly life being much more rare than we are assuming as of now. The one I personally find most fun to give thought to though is Aestivation (even though it’s definitely not the correct solution.)
Im pretty sure old animals that starve dont chose to do so, they just starve coz they are too old and weak to get food
The not eating I don’t think I’d consider suicide…. Food isn’t the easiest thing to get in the wild really, starvation is fairly common even among people I would not at all consider this suicide.
However I’m pre sure I have seen some things that at least poke around at the idea of other creatures intentionally killing themselves…. I’m at least fairly certain that we are not the only ones to commit suicide….
Regarding the old creatures, a lot of things do get dementia basically and can kind of just die from not remembering to eat, or not remembering to not freeze to death. :/
I agree with you that since we dont know how probable abiogenessis or multicellular life is the fermi paradox is nothing more than just a little thought experiment.
