Just try drinking from a random stream in the middle of nowhere. You’ll know why once the dysentery and/or toxicity hits you. I dunno how wild animals do it, to be honest.
We’re also in the midst of a sixth mass extinction event. I don’t think the two things are entirely unrelated. We’ve had a massive impact on the biosphere of this planet. Escaping the net we’ve woven is less and less likely every day.

The only Matrix/prison we live in is the one we’ve built. Drivers’ licenses, passports, bank accounts, money, jobs, houses…
I agree.
Can we escape it?
Sure. Just walk outside.
Leave the system and go into the wild?
The reality of doing that might be a little more difficult now than it was fifty or a hundred years ago. We’ve done a number to the water table.
Why is it more difficult now than before?

So you need something to clean, filter water?

Maybe we have to change the system from inside not by leaving it.
But how?
What should we do?
