Makes me wonder what the term “evolution” really implies. Are we as a species evolving into a more docile and enlightened place, or just adapting to the changing conditions by coming up with new and innovative ways of entertaining and distracting ourselves? I believe it’s the latter. Meh. So I’m a pessimist.
Bear in mind that what you see on the news and social media is driven by clicks. Basically, all news thrives on being attention-grabbing and the competition for your attention is fiercer than ever before. So it’s like you took the debased tabloids of the past and cranked up the depravity to 200. It is all designed to make you feel stuff, and fear and anger tend to be what works best. So the slant is heavily negative.
You don’t hear about all the good shit that happens in the world, because, basically, it is not deemed interesting enough. It simply doesn’t sell. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
Is there any point in knowing every awful thing that happens around the world every day? IMO not really.
I agree. It feels like the world just gets worse and worse. It’s always been horrible, but it doesn’t get better, in terms of suffering and apathy. I don’t want to live in a cruel world like this.
