Every aspect of the postindustrial world is rigged against the average person: the political system, financial markets, job market, housing market, and so forth. Even sports, which ideally should serve as an escape from the madness, is a microcosm of our increasingly inequitable society in which the deck is stacked against the “little guy” at every step of the way. Sure, some people are able to break through in spite of this obvious systemic manipulation, but an increasing number of people are falling behind and slipping through the cracks through no fault of their own. The American Dream of the 1950s has turned into the American Sham of the 21st Century, and similar situations are playing out in other countries around the world. There is no reason to believe that this dire situation will ever improve in our lifetimes. It will only get worse.

I believe it’s pretty bleak for all of us.
