might sound dumb but how many of you drink a lot of coffee or caffeinated drinks? It helps me get out of bed in the morning but lately the afternoon crash is brutal. I mean like intense suicidal urges lasting all through the night. Morning comes, repeat the cycle. I’m not taking any other drugs or alcohol.
Ive quit for long stretches and my suicidal thoughts & panics lessen in severity. but depression is just as thick as ever so I always go back to that morning coffee to get myself out of bed.
seems crazy to think something as widely used and safe as coffee would be doing this but idk what else it could be. The pattern is too predictable. Anyone else have bad suicidal reactions to caffeine?

Have you looked into caffeine addiction withdrawals?
i justlooked it up and a lot of the symptoms describe me. But what’s funny is it’s not a chronic addiction, I literally have like 1 cup of coffee every few days if I really need to get motivated. but almost always after 1 cup, that afternoon and night I have severe suicidal impulses.
I have very adverse reactions to excessive caffeine, and sugar. Panic attacks and severe anxiety aren’t uncommon. I have to be extremely careful with them both.
Exactly like me, good to know I’m not alone although im sorry youre in the same situation. With me panic and anxiety always turn into suicidal impulses, it’s like a 24-48 hour cloud until the effect fades. Problem is I’m so depressed and unmotivated I need a stimulant to do the most basic tasks and caffeine seems to be the only legal stimulant available
I’m always tired so I live on coffee, however, it causes my anxiety to increase. I tried to quit but I suffer from such bad fatigue I don’t think I can live without it.
It actually makes me happy, not suicidal, so I’m surprised to hear of such a reaction. It may be best for you to lessen your intake or get off of it all together. Sorry to hear your dealing with this.

Physically I can quit because I don’t think I have a chemical addiction, but then I just lie around doing nothing for days at a time, and caffeine is the only thing that gives me a temporary boost. Wish I could say it makes me happy but mostly it just makes me ‘energetic’ but often in a bad way. I guess I’ll just go back to being a depressed unmotivated lump most of the week and do coffee 1 or 2 days to handle obligations.
I can’t tell, because one of the effects of caffeine has a direct effect that lessens my will to live. It keeps me from eating as much, often enough allows me not to eat at all. I have milk with my coffee, so that’s something for my blood sugar, but if I drink coffee in the morning, it’s relatively sure that later I’ll have to pay for it.
Then again, what’s so great about eating? It tends to create a sense of well being that is unrealistic, harmful. Caffeine overworks the heart muscle, hastening my demise, kindest thing anyone is willing to do these days.

Im glad you mentioned that because I noticed the same thing. On coffee days I don’t eat at all. Its like I just forget or have no interest. I’m sure lack of appetite is linked to having no will to live.
About the heart muscle you’re right about that, along with malnutrition caffeine is a double whammy that’s just begging for heart failure. I read that’s how people with eating disorders often die, not from literal starvation but because their heart gets weak over time and gives out. Actually call it a triple whammy because starving leads to extreme fluctuations in blood pressure which also overworks the heart. Well there’s a 50% chance of dying in your sleep and I guess that’s about as peaceful as it gets.

Yes, sounds like my pattern. I once read that caffeine, over time, can cause depletion of the adrenal glands, hence the crashing in the afternoon. Once a person is off caffeine, the adrenals have a chance to heal. But that being said, I am a caffeine addict. Worse things to be addicted to for sure.
Caffeine won’t kill you unless you have a heart condition. Unless you consume 23 Monsters like one unfortunate individual did in an obscure report long ago.
actually it can kill and has even been used as a method for suicide
