The fuck is this? Oppositional Defiant Disorder??
They’re just straight up making up shit.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder- ODD
“A disorder in a child marked by defiant and disobedient behavior to authority figures.
The cause of oppositional defiant disorder is unknown but likely involves a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Symptoms generally begin before a child is eight years old. They include irritable mood, argumentative and defiant behavior, aggression, and vindictiveness that last more than six months and cause significant problems at home or school.
Treatment involves individual and family therapy.”
So literally anyone who doesn’t believe in mainstream propaganda or doesn’t believe in authoritarian rules are labeled as ODD. Civil rights leaders and anyone fighting for change would be labeled as ODD. And parents with unruly kids who don’t listen are ODD. It’s just bad parenting ffs.
Good ol’ USA. Literally everything is labeled a “disorder.”

Umm I don’t think you understand. Kids with odd are not “fighting for a cause” they usually don’t even know enough to do that. They’re just argumentative and spiteful. I have no idea how else to put it. Usually comorbid with ADHD ODD is very serious. Like there could be a fire, which is obviously dangerous. They will not listen to you evacuate them. They will resist you. Sometimes it even turns into ASPD. Really difficult conditions to manage.
“they usually don’t even know enough to do that. They’re just argumentative and spiteful.”
Honestly Im not shocked by what you said but don’t go saying kids don’t know anything and that they are always augmentative and spiteful. of course a lot of them are going through puberty which makes them be more irritable. but there are some who try and some who are very smart.
yep, and it’s adult cousin Anti Social Personality Disorder.
I probably shouldn’t elaborate, because it’s even more absurd. The most absurd of all that one of the key defining traits is breaking the law. As if law was some static thing, in relation to mental health issues. Same goes for following the rules at school. That’s not a static thing, therefor the entire diagnosis floats, that is to say it isn’t grounded or tied to anything meaningful.
It may, or may not help to know that quite a few mental health professionals consider both of these BS diagnosis. Hence why I know about the whole floating diagnosis thing. We talked about it in college, the thrust of which ended up being that the entire DSM – 5 is riddled with flaws.
(oh god, this can of worms is only just opening),
like lets talk about polar depression and how up until the 1980s it was a crazy fringe idea. See, the DSM committee (operating under the APA) is a very political body. Not in the Republican/Democrat way, more in a toxic large family type of way. So until the 1980s there were a few more types of depression, including psychosis from depression which the DSM decided to call “manic”… but it isn’t quite manic, is it? Calling all psychosis “mania” is about as descriptive as calling all who wish to die “depressed” it just isn’t true or accurate.
Sometime in the near future the mental health professions are going to notice that all the high achievers moved elsewhere, and I’m willing to bet it will be much FURTHER into the future before they figure out that their theories serve little purpose but to sell drugs, and their own policies are rot through with logical and thinking errors.
Not much comfort to us…. except that you can reasonably assume anyone licensed under this system is complicit and therefor not credible. I gave up trying to fix it, too much money in it staying as awful as it is.
(oh god, I thought it was all out, there’s more) the fact is that the entire history of psychology is a narrative of exploitation and horror. Psychologists lended their professional support to eugenics, the idiotic idea of “race hygiene” propagated by the Nazis. OH but it gets worse, using that professional backing multiple countries then STERILIZED THE UNDESIREABLES. This means if you were considered “feeble minded” (which any of us would be) and the government caught on they would remove your ability to reproduce.
Between that and lobotomy, I’m unclear what moral standard psychology believes it has to say who is behaving correctly. Not even getting into unethical experiments like Project Ultra and the Stanford Prison Experiment…… that would be another two paragraphs at least about the lack of basic human decency in this field.
It occurs to me this might sound like conspiracy theories, but it isn’t. These are documented facts of history. They weren’t even secret. People want to forget, and they call US feeble minded?
“their theories serve little purpose but to sell drugs” – and THAT my dear, is the whole point of psychiatry. The DSM is a joke. EVERYTHING is now pathologized and labeled a disorder. Once something gets labeled as a “disorder,” they can then sell you drugs. And what a profitable market it is. People don’t realize just how much money there is in keeping everyone drugged for life. And People don’t think big pha.rma has an incentive to keep us sick?
Nope, not conspiracy theories at all. First rule: Follow the Money. It explains why things are the way they are. Everything that seems “broken” has been purposely designed this way. It’s lining someone’s pockets. t always seems to line the pockets of big corporations and the powerful that gets to create all the rules. Curious how it works eh?
lol, you can rant some more. get it all out. i know you got more 😉
i have my rants against the Medical Industrial Complex as well. LOADS in fact. It’s an inhumane industry who’s profits are built on the sickness of people- on making ppl sick and keeping ppl sick for life. That is their model. That’s why “nothing really works” bc they DON’T want it to work.
The thing about it, I was raised to believe you couldn’t fix everything, pick your battles and make a difference. This was my area, the one I thought maybe I could change for the better, four years of school, three years of private sector work, and I couldn’t keep pushing that rock up the hill.
I don’t know, I thought it was a suitably realistic position that given my relative skill and economic status I’d have some influence by now. What I really wanted, and it shows, is to be on the DSM committee about developing DSM – 6….. but I failed a prereq of getting into a clinical psychology PhD
Is it unrealistic to expect a leg up? If you thrive for years at a job that mostly attracts people bad at math, is it so much to hope for a career path?
Guess so. Now I’m about dropping off the grid. I don’t want to care, the world can go to hell, and based on my observation it’s on that exact track. Can’t help a patient that doesn’t want to get well.
The problem is this: the people at the very top, don’t want systems to be “fixed.” If you make billions of dollars from people being poor, sick, depressed, suicidal, etc, why would you “fix” things so you lose billions? These people are soulless callous monsters. The powerful wealthy elites who control our country and economy are sociopaths. They do not care if millions of people are sick and die or suffer from poverty or physical illness or mental illness. They only care about the bottom line and enriching themselves.
This is why ordinary peons have no say, no control, and can do very little to effect change. I’m not trying to be depressing, but that’s the reality of life- that our lives are controlled by a select few. They decide if we eat GMO pesticide laden food or not, they decide if we have healthcare or not, they decide whether to clean up toxic chemical spills or not, leaving residents with toxic water and air (East Palestine, OH). Flint, MI *still* has no clean water. And how long has that been an issue? They can easily give Flint clean drinkable water (they had it before the powers that be decided to knowingly change their water supply to something low quality bc it saved them a few bucks).
Even if you were to get on the DSM committee- the people at the very top of the committee, are beholden to the pharmaceutical industry. They aren’t going to “fix” things that help people. They aren’t going to go against big ******, the hand that feeds them. If a true solution means lower profits for them, and corporations are all about profits- then that “fix” isn’t going to happen.
Anyhow, the people at the top of the DSM committee are beholden to the pharmaceutical industry and are unlikely to change anything that doesn’t benefit the MIC or do anything that will lower their profits even the slightest.
If the MIC really wanted to help people, they would give us universal healthcare. They would charge us reasonable prices for drugs. Did you know the American pharmaceutical industries charge the US a fuckton way more for the exact same drug as they do the same drug to other countries? For ex, diabetes medicine. Millions of Americans fly to Canada and back to get them every year bc it’s much cheaper there than here. Why charge Americans $1000 for the same medicine that costs $150 in Canada? Because they can. They make us the most money off of us, and so they do. Lots of life saving drugs are out of reach of poor people, so they get sick and die. Could they lower the price to just the same level that they charge Canada? Or the UK? Sure, but they won’t. So what if millions of poor Americans die? They don’t care.
i know where you are coming from, bc i was once like that- i was young, hopeful, saw all this inefficiency in the sector i was in- wanted to effect changes, wanted things to be better, more accurate, that was beneficial to people- but you run into bureaucracy, you run into ppl at the middle and at the top who don’t want to have to change anything or do anything different than what they’ve always done, etc. At a certain point, you realize you can’t effect any real change unless you are at the very top. And the people at the very top have a vested interest in keeping the status quo.
I know I sound jaded af, but I’m in finance, or was, and when you follow the money, you see perfectly clear why everything that is broken in society is structured the way it is, and why it doesn’t get “fixed.”
