That’s basically what I’ve been trying to say in all my posts. Modern society is fucked up, so is it a wonder that WE are fucked up in this fucked up system?
Exactly pretty much this, for people able to work, work ends up occupying their entire life… and they definitely aren’t paid enough for it. I wasn’t anyway, it’s nice to hear from someone that the system works relatively better for saying the same thing.
Pretty much a shanty outside the grid is my goal. I don’t really think I’ll die younger, just because I can afford a shanty in a state with decent public health, where staying here and working will shorten my lifespan.
I also like his metaphor regarding that some people have it worse; some people have to eat poop, and that is worse than burnt toast, but being aware of that doesn’t make burnt toast taste better. That just about sums it up for me. Yes, I’m relatively well off, and it is substantially easier for me than for a lot of people, which sucks all the more. If I (going to reveal a small amount of demographic detail) a middle aged white guy living in the American Midwest, if I can’t make it…… god I don’t even know how to get into people who don’t have the privilege I was born into. I’m aware of more of it, but that doesn’t make anything better.
It’s the airplane thing; put the air mask on yourself before you put it on someone you are with, because you have to be alive to care for others. Then I think about that some people have never been on a commercial airplane…. which I guess somewhat sucks, but so does air travel. Literally all it is is faster. Last time I flew cross country I made up my mind that I would rather rent a car and drive both ways, taking 12 days of over road travel rather than six hours of flight. It was that unpleasant.
lol i’ve guessed you were a white male who grew up in a middle income family living in the American Midwest, based on your posts. At least you acknowledge your privilege rather than deny it or say it doesn’t exist- which it VERY MUCH DOES exist in the USA.
There are actually tons of white men who moan and say they are MORE disadvantaged than others in America, and think they have it worse, and I’m like WTF?
Therein lies part of the reason why I dislike humans so much- no matter how much fact or truth or research you present, people will believe whatever they want to believe. Anything they don’t like to hear is just “fake.”
Yes, air travel sucks. I’m not looking forward to flying next month. Flying these days is hell. I think you’d rather drive bc driving you are at least alone in the car, no one else to bother you.
