not sure if it’ll be dark enough for you, but I love Assassination Classroom and it has a pretty dark premise; The teacher of a classroom of low performing students challenges them to kill him before the end of the school year, Else he destroys the world
he looks like an octopus, but all you are told up front is that he’s definitely from Earth. At the start it’s pretty silly, but it gets more serious the further in it goes. Eventually the reality of a teacher trying to teach students to kill him gets reasonably dark.
Personally I would recommend Monster (Naoki Urasawa). It’s a psychological anime and one of my favorites. It’s about a surgeon whose former patient turns out to be a serial killer. It’s much more interesting than I’ve made it sound, I’m being brief to save me some typing.
Higurashi When They Cry is also a pretty dark anime. I like it but it gets pretty gory at points.
I honestly hate Elfen Lied but a lot of people seem to like it for some reason. Maybe that might be up your alley? It’s also extremely gory and has some sexual(ish) stuff in it, including incest. A lot of people consider it to be a “gem” of an anime though.
yeah not really into elfin lied. maybe it’s popular bc it has a lot of sexual stuff in it, and i’m not a horny teenage boy so nah for me
i went to check the # of episodes for monster and accidentally scrolled down the google search page and damnit, someone put the spoilers out FRONT AND CENTER on the google search page so now I know the ending 🙁 and now that i know the ending, i can’t watch it anymore. :'( the plot did sound interesting tho… -_-
but leave it to the narrative that doing good and standing up for your principles lead to ruin. i mean that’s what happens IRL but -_- sad. sigh…
Im not sure if it would be considered dark but I like “angels of death”. Basically its this girl trapped in an asylum hospital I guess and she goes through each floor experiencing a monster or being on each one.
