All throughout public education, we were taught that the colonists and the Natives had Thanksgiving Dinner- never mind that Indians don’t celebrate Thanksgiving and the fact that the story is just bullshit. The REAL TRUTH was that the British and colonists gave the Natives Smallpox-laden blankets so that they’d all catch Smallpox and die. Yeah, THAT story was never told to us.
I *just* now (30min ago) learned about this. And yes, this was documented and is fact- even the History Channel and the National Library of Medicine (.gov) admits this. Although, they deny this tactic worked. OFC it worked- there was a documentary called Guns Germs and Steel that documented how MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of Natives were decimated and died of disease brought on by the colonists (although this documentary claimed it was just through the natural spread of disease- no mention of Smallpox blankets).
But noooo, the Indians and the colonists had a merry ol’ time sharing a Thanksgiving meal! On second thought, maybe they did share “Thanksgiving Dinner” and the colonists purposely poisoned the food to kill them. THAT I could actually believe.
Thanksgiving my ass
Manifest Destiny my ass
Manhattan was bought for $1 my ass
The Truth is the Natives were slaughtered to near extinction bc they wanted their land. And they had wanted the land since DAY 1 of landing here and realized it was good land. Just had those pesky humans they needed to get rid of so they can steal the land.

As an academic, I am beyond speechless at the atrocities that were committed, and how the “educational” system PURPOSELY LIED to all of us, spreading lies and misinformation. I grew up before the internet so there was no “fact-checking” anything- you were just given a history textbook, tested on it, and everything in those textbooks were treated as all 100% fact. And you were not allowed to argue against ANYTHING that was in those books or question what ANYTHING your all-knowing teacher told you. And the few books in the libraries ALL corroborated the same stories, the same lies and propaganda.
Sigh. EVERY SINGLE THING we have been told has been LIES.
Down to the “Food Pyramid” that was drilled into our heads for decades.
I am beyond depressed about this life on Earth.
EVERY facet of our lives is controlled by the greedy wealthy elites. Down to the “food” we are allowed to eat. Yeah sure, you can get “real” food that isn’t processed but good luck trying to find anything that isn’t processed or poisoned by pesticides, even those labeled as “organic.” Yes people- most “organic” produce are still sprayed with pesticides- just labelled as “organic pesticides”- you didn’t know that did you? (btw, arsenic is natural, and is also “organic”- doesn’t mean it isn’t poison). So there’s lots of “organic” pesticides out there doing as much harm as the chemical pesticides sprayed on ALL our foods.
And anything that IS actually healthy made by local farmers is $$$$ AF.
I’ve been eating really shitty cheap food, bc well $$$. And I know I’m being slowly poisoned with every bite. And no, I don’t want to die this way- not a SLOW and torturous death, being poisoned by industry.

all the worst things Americans ever did seem to be to native people. Other marginalized groups suffered too, but enough of them survived to tell their story
my mentor was a Native American scholar, I absorbed a lot from him about the atrocities Europeans had committed….. and still commit to a lesser extent
boarding schools
literally selling native children to white families
the tragedy of native women disappearing
taking the exact same land they had just been relocated to
not even getting into the environmental atrocities committed, like the near extinction of the buffalo. I can’t post pictures here, but there’s a well known photo of a huge pile of bison bones, from when the US government put out a bounty; kill a buffalo get money AND the meat. It’s one of the most heartbreaking pictures I’ve ever seen, moreso because the US government COULDN’T fight the plains tribes, so instead they killed their food. Every bison skull represents thousands of native families starved to death.
but can any of us vouch for the value of knowing? It’s part of what broke me, knowing the horrors done by my ancestors.
the worst, probably. but the list of American atrocities is LONG. not just long but SUPER LONG. remember, since America’s founding in 1776, America has NOT been in a war for ONLY 17 years, out of 247 years. there’s a shitload of atrocities there. -_-
and you know what broke me? knowing all the horrors done by human beings, and me being born as a homo sapien. i’m done with this stupid shitty selfish evil species.
