I’m doing it right now. I keep looking at my research proposal draft and not doing anything to it. I see all the comments left and it just turns me off. It’s all fair criticism, but at the same time it reminds me of how completely out of my depth I’d be in a PhD program. With enough effort, anybody could probably get a PhD degree. I’m just not one of those people to put in the effort. Meaningful effort anyways. I’ll probably not touch my draft today and say I’ll do it tomorrow and repeat the same thing. I just don’t have it in me. I never wanted to touch CLARA again after my master’s and now I’m putting in a research proposal for it to try to get into a PhD program. No motivation + No skill = Not qualified. I was doomed from the start. Just to delusional to really see it. After all this effort I’ve put in. What a waste.

Try AI, ChatGPT for example….so many people use it for writing papers and stuff…some are more targeted to your field.
There are also AI checkers to make sure that it won’t look like it was written by AI or you can just modify it yourself.
I have some rough scripts I’m working on and also want to write business plans for approaching investors…after I’m done with the rough drafts, I’ll see what AI can do for me.
We live in such an incredible time, where we can do creative work with 1% of the effort it used to take in the past…like think of graphic design…logos can be spit out in seconds and 100 variations…while a designer would take hours or days to do the same.
I do feel sorry for creative types who get replaced…but time/technology marches on.
Disillusionment and burnout with research papers is extremely common, and it can be hard to see any light at the end of that tunnel. It’s empowering to think “once I finish this and get my PhD, I’ll be recognized for my achievement and possibly admired by those around me ”
It can just be difficult sometimes to really see it when you’re struggling. It may be a good idea to remind yourself of whatever goal you set out with when you began this, and try to really see it coming true at the end. That may help you keep pushing on
