Love me some Lemon Demon. Of Course my dear friend Neil is only taking after a long line of alternative singers in being very sardonic in his approach to human relationships. He was influenced of course by the great Logan Whitehurst and They Might be Giants. My wife and I did actually go out for Valentines day last night and what music do you suppose came up while we were coming to and from the restaurant? Several of my more morbid picks;
Also, speaking of boozing, do you know what I had with my dinner? Second one I’ve had in two weeks, an old fashioned. I’m quite fond of old fashioneds and it’s in no small part because of this scene from It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World;

If you’ve never had one it’s a strong drink usually bourbon whiskey over ice with bitters and a garnish. Though the one I had last week for my birthday was tequila instead of bourbon, not sure I would approve of that as a regular thing, but it tasted just fine.
Though I often misquote it as “what could go wrong with an old fashioned!” Given the guy bumps his head and they have to land the plane on their own, the answer is obvious. Don’t drink and try and fly a plane.
You can however eat a decent sized meal and drive home on an old fashioned, something I demonstrated last night. Drinking and driving is a matter of patience, have enough on your stomach and be hydrated enough, and if you drink the booze slow enough and it won’t hit you too hard.
My dad asked me earlier this week when we were drinking beer what the last time I got really drunk was and that was when my granddad died, he left behind some whiskey and my cousin and I got really messed up on it because neither of us were driving and both of us were pretty messed up in other ways that day.
The opportunities and desire to get blackout drunk go away at my point in life. What good would it do me? My body would just hate me for it. My medications would just malfunction. A little whiskey here and there is fun for the flavor, but I can’t imagine drinking enough to really do some serious damage.
Anyway, roleplaying game night tonight for me, which isn’t particularly romantic but there it is.
