Ever just watch pet fish? Watch them swim around in their bowl? Wonder if they are unhappy swimming in circles, seeing the same things, eating the same things, doing the same things? Does my fish, Flex, even know that my other fish, Murs, is in the bowl with him? Does he even notice the rainbow I put in their to help give them some scenery and something to swim through. Just like school, jobs, and sports are just thrown into the world to give us something to do. The flowers, trees, and ‘mystical wonderlands’ are just scenery to spice up the fact that we are just living in a bowl. Oh, and that fish next to you doesn’t actually care. They are just there because they have to be. They are just there to make the bowl less boring, and try to spice up your life. The saddest part is the brutal facts. We just live in a bowl. A dirty, murky bowl. Some fish have cleaner bowls than others, some don’t have to swim in their own crap or suck up the disintegrated food petals at the bottom. You just swim around and around and around in the same old bowl and no matter what you do, or where you go or who you see.. your hourglass is still only gonna last as long as the sand is running. There is no pause, there is no restart or rewind. Most fish are oblivious to the fact that their life is pointless, that they are just there to make our lives a little bit more interesting. Is that what we are? Are we are just here just to make God’s life a little more interesting? Why not end it now? End the misery of the dreaded bowl? Take the jump, fall to the ground, suffocate. Break the social norm of a running hour glass. Grab a hammer and smash that hour glass before it has time to even think about what’s coming. Rebel. Break the social norm. Jump. End the misery. Leave. Get out of the bowl. See life through the opposite perspective, be the one looking over the bowl of life. Heaven? I don’t know about me, but I hope so. I really do.

Nobody knows. This could be every experience you will ever have. After that, nothing. Never again anything. So it really doesn’t matter why you are here. Here is all you got and all you ever have. Don’t want this? Fine, but the alternative is nothing.
There’s a philosophical position known as antinatalism which ascribes a negative value to birth. Under this view people should stop reproducing because being brought into this world inevidably results in suffering. The world would probably be a better place if humans didn’t exist. At least other animals don’t have the burden of sentience. The best part is if no one existed there wouldn’t even be anyone to miss this place 😛
Are you sure animals aren’t sentient?
http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2009/05/11/animal-pleasure.html
“The capacity for pleasure means that an animal’s life has intrinsic value, that is, value to the individual independent of his or her value to anyone else, including humans,”

The dog was rescued and tied up. But as soon as he was released he entered the water again and tried to sink himself. This occurred several times until at last the dog appeared to tire and “by dint of keeping his head determinedly under water for a few minutes, succeeded at last in obtaining his object, for when taken out this time he was indeed dead.”
Even about suffering, not everybody agrees on that:
“If I had to choose between pain and nothing, I would always choose pain.” – William Faulkner
eh i have a lot of things to say about “nothing” and predicating well being onto it as well as animal sentiece but i dont wana bore you
I don’t think you would bore me. Even if you get to bore me, it would be an improvement on my mood. =)
But i bore myself lolz i’ll make it short
If we agree that a decision is bad when it leaves a person in a worse state then before and conversely that a good decision is one that leaves them in a better state and that good decisions are rational and bad irrational then choosing to not exist can never be rational or irrational because nonexistence is not a state it is the absence of a state.
So the statement you quoted as per my logic can never be aggreeable nor dissagreeable and is just vacuously empty.
As far as my furry friends i think more sophisticated animals e.g cetaceans, passerines, primates, elephants etc. may have subjective experience but my point was that animals don’t suffer in the same way that humans do. lions change mates periodically but don’t get depressed and throw themselves into a river.
Thanks for sharing. I see your point in both cases. The last one you’re probably right, but the first one is really tricky.
You are not wrong, but this concept about nonexistentialism really bothers me. We can compare something to zero, but not to nothing. Tough I still like to believe something is better than nothing, in the sense I’d like to receive a bad gift than no gift at all (but it’s just my opinion, many will prefer no gift)
At least you don’t talk to your fish. Your in real trouble when that happens. That’s how I ended up here.
I used to live in a place where a stray, neighborhood cat would rush into my house if the door was left open for too long. The cat always went straight to the fish bowl, and would perch over the top, mesmerized by the fish swimming in the bowl. That cat was obsessed with those fish.
I read something alike this in a book and I think it is very interesting. I do think that we’re in a fishbowl and that our lives are pointless, we’re something like the Sims of God. I use to watch the fishes on their aquariums and I wonder if they are like us: in a miserable bowl thinking that their lives are useful and that they live in some kind of magical and enormous world. Yeah, our lives are just… pointless. When I realize about it I just say “Never mind, go ahead”.
