Personally high school was the worst years of my life so far. It broke me and i am only now beginning to sew together the pieces.
I am telling you this because some people LOVED high school, most of my now friends in university had the time of their life there and if they had the chance would do it again. But I would kill myself if i had to repeat even a day of it.
My advice is to understand that you either love it or hate it, choose which one suits you and own it. If you love it, that’s great, have the time of your life. But if you hate it like myself. Put your head down, focus on your grades and hang in there to get by.
Because I truly believed life was going to be like high school and at times wanted to end it. But life is NOTHING like high school (for me personally), high school would have been the end for me, but I am so grateful to myself for sticking through it, because now I can look back and be proud of my courage and respect who I am today for the suffering and pain I went through.
Sounds so dramatic but high school was nothing but traumatic for me.
Make up your own mind and don’t listen to others, don’t even listen to me. What is your experience? If it’s better, great. If it’s not, fuck the world and suffer through it for a rewarding life on the other side.
oh dear. i’m in my mid 30s. i hated high school. hated college. i’m still waiting for the best years of my life to come because it has mostly sucked so far.
School is hard. The brain is developing, hormones, emotions, expectations, grading – everything is measured.
God we love to measure shit, and when it doesn’t’ measure up, what do we do?
And it’s never going to measure up when the units of measure keep changing or aren’t defined at all. No wonder we feel so lost!
False Hope is an interesting concept.
Was it false because what you hoped for was not achieved or because it was not possible to be achieved?
If it was the latter then hoping for it was a waste of time at best a excuse to stay stuck at worse.
If the former it wasn’t false and you likely learned something.
Most people hope for what is not possible, hope but are really expecting magic. Hoping to win the lottery but never buying a ticket.
@embargo Be careful how you wait, passive waiting can also be a trap.
Always waiting for “something†to arrive it’s all too easy not to notice when it does.
I don’t like this measurement of “best yearsâ€. It unhelpful and until your life is over you don’t have all the data anyway. If I decided my best years occurred when I was in my twenties and can expect to live to my eighties… that sucks and sets me up for disappointment.
We only see what we look at.
The Car goes where the eyes go. When you lose control and find yourself looking at the tree you’re afraid running into your going to hit it. To have any control of the car you have to look at where you want to go.

It IS better…. better than junior high (or middle school) – whatever they call it by you.
But utopia? No. Far from it.
Try to be patient. It does get easier. Best wishes to you.

Good luck!
kinda agree with solace. My 20s were clearly the best years….
