Several weeks ago in a reputable British publication, Lana Del Rey was quoted as saying “I wish I was dead already. . . I don’t want to have to keep doing this. But I am.”
Lana’s remarks, whether taken out of context or not, led to a massive backlash. People love her, or love to hate her. And then of course there are some who don’t know who she is and don’t give a fuck what she does or doesn’t say.
There’s people who put her down and dismiss her as a ‘faker.’ But who are they to decide what is real and is not?
My sister-in-law says that ‘a person’s perception is their reality.’ So what if Lana sees the world through a darker lens than most? Who CARES if that’s what she really thinks about life and death? Why should anyone else have the right to tell her that she should not have such thoughts?
I for one opine that Lana is one of a very few who will not kowtow and kiss anyone’s ass. And if her blase attitude toward death is all part of the show, then at least it’s a damn good show, right?

I think your sister-in-law’s opinion is spot on, even if it’s her perception of reality and some might argue that she’s wrong. The problem with Lana Del Rey (i’m not familiar with her but i don’t think i need to be to say this point) is that she’s a public figure giving out statements that are not your usual society sugar coated ones, so it’s understandable that she’s going to get attacked.
Besides that, she’s in the entertainment business, which makes her exposed to all kinds of backlash (and she surely knows it). And how do you succeed in that business? getting people’s attention in anyway you can. So it’s easy to see why people call her fake as well.
Same thing happened with Radiohead back in the day when their music turned even darker than usual (around karma police time? i think). I remember an interview when some guy asked their frontman (his name escapes me) when he was going to kill himself, haha.
I’d take an arrow to the knee for Miss Grant anyday. Honestly, I fell in love with her back in ’08 after seeing her live rendition of “Yayo”. Lawd… Her voice is perfectly flawed and the way she smiles due to immense shyness… I’m still sad she’s become so prevalent in mainstream media, but what can you do? At least she’s still her at heart.
I remember reading about her above comments and how she had wished she’d never said them, but if she wasn’t part of the societal conscious as a whole, would they have cared anyway? Back when she was singing in dive bars and stuff, comments like that would’ve done nothing to faze the masses. But alas…
I love how people call her a faker, yet she’s one of a few (if not the only) mainstream artist where you can pick out the flaws in her vocals – that’s fricken choice-as if you ask me. Well, like she says: “…we were born to die”.

Who better than myself? I don’t want anyone else deciding for me what is or isn’t “real.” No one should. We should all be trying to figure out that kind of thing on our own, but with the help of any facts that can be identified with regard to any question. The problems begin when someone tries to insist (and then make laws accordingly) that something IS real, but cannot provide any evidence to substantiate their claims (i.e. “God”), or when someone tries to blatantly deny obvious and irrefutable facts, and then acts wrongly despite those facts (e.g. the U.S. Gov’t).
The name sounds familiar, but idk who she is, and why should i care? Celebrities are just people who got lucky. Plenty of talented folks never see a dime for their efforts.
People love to get all up in everyone else’s business. I think they learned that from gov’t brainwashing.
