I know a part of it is lack of latitude, perspective, and maturity…another mitigating factor is the plethora of uncouth unkempt destructive and fickle hormones that run rampant and unchecked in rare form, throughout all the winters that reign year(s) in and through all the days of precocious and ironically facetious youth thru the ides of March until age20 comes to pass…..but how much, and towards what end, does the state of the world, internationally and locally weigh in this….if this is a cumbersome and poorly written, it’s bc it’s written in stream of consciousness style. It’s a writing exercise used by writers to hone their craft. I wanna do a poll, how many people on this site are old enough to vote? It seems that most people on this site are minor s

This is the most pretentious crap
More like loquacious catterwauling , I didn’t mean to come off as condescending.I’m
Sincerely sorry. I’m not too far away from my adolescence and would like to humbly submit that I am very well acquainted with the monsters of youth. I am still deficient in maturity latitude andperspective my motives for wondering are quite banal in nature. I was wondering if the socio economic culture in conjunction with the state of the world had any bearings on thiis dime store crippling depressionand if so, in what capacity….but I didn’t mean to be pretentious or minimize the trails of the young…. this post is probably makes little sense, if at all, I have insomnia so therefore trying to make anything that would resemble logic, or a cohesive thought is an arduous task…again, sorry if I came out as insensitive, or minimalize ing the levity of the devastation that finds itself in depression…If I may ask, in what way was my post pretentious?
in which we findd the state of the world had in respect to
Last I check suicide facts it stated that white males over 50 had the highest suicide rate of any category. Young people get a lot of attention, get noticed, talk about it more, but us old guys know how to get the job done and done right.

Why so hateful? In a bit slow on the uptake, have I done something to offend you?
I reread your post and agree that it wasn’t written well, but I think I get what you’re asking. The original question was why do so many young people want to die.
Judging by the chart I posted the rate per thousand remained pretty steady from 1990 through 2000 where it takes a little dip. But these are actual suicides and not “why” young want to die or anyone of any age wants to die.
My guess is it has everything to do with human interaction. Peer pressure. Not measuring up to society standards. Just people trying to get along with other people. Kurt Vonnegut in his book Galapagos suggests that the human brain has evolved as oversized. Our brains are much too big therefore we think wayyyy too much. Big brains will cause humans to become extinct by our own hand.
Oh yes, and then there’s always Millefeui’s classic response to consider, which is a good one, actually. LOL
I don’t know, I find you to be an interesting character Cathy. Of course I don’t mean any offense by this. I’m assuming you’re from the US of A but I think most countries have their voting ages set at 18 as well. I’m 20 and have been wanting to die since I was 13. I think it would be easier for me to commit suicide once I’m older since I have a lot of family relying on me right now. Once they all go their own way or die off I feel I’ll be left with nothing to keep me here.
Here’s an anecdote. I turned 18 on November 8th but the Presidential elections were on November 6th, so I could not vote and I was very upset. That actually wasn’t that amusing, sorry.
I didn’t mean that literary, I know that most successful suicides happen in spring, usually middle-aged…I meant the demographics of this site in particular..seems to me that a lot of people here are younger
Maybe the younger generation is more tuned in to internet and this type of communication? But, ya, there are a lot of young teens for whatever reason.
Yes – there are a lot of younger folks here … and that’s probably because they’ve grown up with the internet much like us older folks grew up with transistor radios, record players, rotary phones and black and white TVs with rabbit ears. The younger folk today also grew up in a world where it’s more acceptable to talk openly about feelings. So between those two things, young folk are more open and accepting of talking about feelings/issues using this technology/medium. Add these things together and I think it’s not that there is “more” younger folks considering suicide per se, but they are now more visible as opposed to other demographics.
The prevailing train of thought for us middle aged folk was that depression/mental illness/addictions etc. were considered “weakness” in our generation(s), thus it was almost an imperative to keep these feelings secret. It’s a learned behavior/mindset over decades that can be hard to overcome – much like religion 😛
Although I think Randall’s statistics contradict your hypothesis, I also think that there probably is an increase to some degree in the younger demographics from decades earlier. I think that is largely because younger folks these days are seeing less opportunity for long term success. Young folk are seeing the plans of their parents and grand parents fall woefully short of their retirement goals, they see themselves faced with a mountainous school loan debt before they start their first real job and they see corporations that have zero loyalty to their employees. They are faced with sooo many challenges that older generations didn’t have to overcome – at least at the outset.
Additionally, on the whole, we’ve turned into a “disposable” society … no need to “fix” something when you can just go out and get a new one.
two wheat pennies dawg
* Angst runs forever deep in the young.
* Media adaptability.
* Less imagined repercussions for speaking out when you are young.
* Many here have tried and failed before their first post. The older ones don’t make it this far because they are dead.
I think it’s interesting that SP Admin has determined that methods discussions are verboten but posts made before the rule was in place probably drive traffic here.
I’d love to see what Google Analytics says about this site!
