I mentioned in an earlier post that I wanted to try sketching some things.
I couldn’t find an app that did what I needed, so I just drew on a sheet of paper and took a picture of it.

I haven’t taken any art classes, and I realize this is nothing compared to the amazing things some of you have posted.
Still I’d like to keep working on some projects, and maybe I will get better as time goes on.
If nothing else, maybe this (plus my music composition projects) will distract me from the part of my brain that wants me to overdose and walk in front of heavy traffic.

Cordless, WOW! Not bad 🙂 you are making me jealous! you have lots of talent, piano, xxxxxxx, and now this! keep making me jealous! 🙂
Whew!
I was worried about what you would say. 😉
P.S. I wonder what the “xxxxxxx” stands for….
Cordless, HA HA! You know what it stands for 🙂
I wasn’t aware I had displayed any particular expertise in the “xxxxxxx” area….
😮
Cordless, And your quite good at it 🙂
That is really great. Looks like you’ve got a talent in drawing.
Thank you; I realize I need a lot of work on shading and proportion. I see all kinds of mistakes when I look at it, but I wanted to hurry up and post it because I knew I could take forever tweaking until I’d gone too far and ruined everything. So here it is, warts and all. 😉
Not sure which is worse, tweaking or twerking. 😮
Cordless, tweaking 🙂
Just to be on the safe side, I probably shouldn’t do either one.
Cordless, yeah probably right! i tried it one time and started knocking over furniture and shit. 🙂
Were you tweaking or twerking?
If the answer is “both”, please post video.
Cordless, Both however the camera was part of the collateral damage. 🙁
Very nice.
Thank you!
If I can’t find an app that will let me do things like this, I think I’ll just keep doing it the old fashioned way. I don’t mind. 🙂
that eye, is a portal into your soul.
Probably true.
😮
Lovely! Is she some kind of forest nymph?
Your guess is as good as mine!
Really nice cordless. Yeah I agree, you have been blessed with many talents. Keep drawing and posting, it takes guts to put ur work out in the world. Not sure if u know how inspiring u are, but I think u are.
I don’t know if I qualify as inspiring, but I am grateful that I have a few ways to distract me from throwing myself into traffic. 😮
Thank you very much for the kindness.
Very nice!
Thank you!
I found myself wondering what colors I would use if I ever painted it… and I kept bouncing back and forth between a traditional scheme (green leaves, flesh tones)… and a batshit crazy one with completely psycho colors.
I like the idea of both.
Since in a way I am both.
My emotional state dictates the colors I use.
Awesome job, Cordless. Really, really good.
Well, thank you.
I realize I still have a lot to learn. 🙂
This is really good!! to say you have never taken art classes its really doesn’t show. You shouldn’t compeer your work to others and sell yourself short, no one can do what you do better then you do it… and if it stops you from ODing and walk in front of heavy traffic, then please keep it up!! :0)
Just high school art class, which in my opinion doesn’t count since it didn’t really teach me anything. I wanted to learn drawing and sketching and sculpting and painting and the techniques for excelling in those forms.
Instead it was hopelessly remedial, kind of a “drop box” for the students who didn’t really want to work on anything and hoped for an easy “A”.
There were so many of those types of kids, that the teacher dumbed the class down to suit them.
I was disappointed.
I know the disappointment, I always took composition classes hoping it would teach me something and make me a good or at least a better composer… they never did and I never learnt a thing lol… In fact, had I have not known about a thing before a class I certainly wouldn’t have got it from the teachers explanation. I have been teaching music for 6 years and I still stand by it can not be taught, we can teach a few tools, show what other composers have done etc but it doesn’t mean a person can then go away and do it… I think art is a thing that you can either do or you can’t really.
I had kind of the opposite problem when I went to college and took composition there.
It turned out I was the only one in the class, so it ended up being an independent study.
I had all these grand expectations for myself, and made elaborate plans to finish an entire multi-movement orchestral piece in one semester.
The instructor had to help me settle down and have more realistic expectations.
This was back when composition software was just coming out, and I really didn’t know how to use it.
So the vast part of my work was in pencil on manuscript paper.
I spent some time trying to learn Finale back then, but was clueless.
These days, Finale is all I use. 🙂
sorry for being one of those kids who struggled to barely pass the tests with a d, and made it all worse for you all who were better.
No way! lol that is really bad being the only one there, I’d like to think composition/music is a popular choice of subject but obviously not 😀
Your expectation did sound very ambitious but not unreasonable for a composition class but sadly they are not about making good composers, they are about passing exams.
I found it all very restricting, my teacher was more of a minimalist composer and tried to push that genera on to all the class. But I was always more interested in music for moving image. He would always criticize my work for things like if I had used consecutive 5ths or octaves etc But they was rules Bach went by but not me necessarily lol. I was trying to find my own voice, I left with hardly any compositions at all :-/ it wasn’t until I left I became a composer really.
I remember the days of pencil on manuscript paper lol pfft what a ball ach that was!! composers today have it soooo good with all these notation programmes 😀
@cold_sleep: That’s how I felt in other classes, like physics and biology. I wanted to understand the concepts, since on a theoretical level it was fascinating. But the actual work of remembering functions and theorems and formulas… I was absolutely lost. I wished for a remedial form that would allow me to understand at my own pace.
@ant: I remember Music Theory… all those rules about avoiding parallel fifths, and tri-tones. Even now there’s a part of me that cringes if I discover I happen to put one in by mistake. But on the other hand, sometimes I reach for that “forbidden” stuff on purpose, if I’m writing something that’s supposed to sound psycho or disturbed or chaotic.
I did a lot of that in my “Triggering” piece.

I use to love music theory!! Here in the UK before you can do a music degree you have to have ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) grade 8 in either/or practical or theory and everyone avoids the theory and goes for the practical cause is it just crazy things you have to do to pass the theory but I was just determined I would get my grade 8 in that rather then the practical. But again it restricted me lol, I had to forget all the rules before I could writer again… It brought a lot of meaning to the phrase “you have to learn the rules before you can brake them” for sure!!
The thing with all the “forbidden” things within music is that there are always exceptions… In some of Bach’s Chorales he did use parallel 5ths and octaves, he does have a lot of unresolved discords etc. who really knows that he did have rules around these things? to me It’s just musicologists reading far to much into things that aren’t even there 😀 basically in a piece he had no 5ths the rules apply, and when he did use them then they say “there are always exceptions” in other words he had no rules then, he just composed a piece that sounded good regardless… and that’s pretty much what composing is lol.
Wow this is a really impressive composition! it’s you say Psycho cause while I was listening I did think of Bernard Herrmann’s score for the film Psycho 😀 if that is the sound you was going for then you nailed it!!!
It’s funny you say Psycho*
Awesome job!
Hey! Thank you! 🙂
I’m grateful that people seem to like it.
Very nice, you have a talent here too! Thank you for sharing!
You are an amazing artist. Never quit.
