Because he wanted it to be public. Because he wanted to be on the news. He wanted to draw attention to his death. He wanted to make a statement. The white house is the ultimate symbol of the american government. So killing himself there seems like it would be a way of saying this is your fault america. He probably blamed society as a whole and the government in particular for whatever conditions in his life pushed him to kill himself. And he wanted people to know his death was the governments fault.
For all the depth of the story of the life and trials and suffering that brought this man to end his life this way in a symbolic expression of frustration, the reality of his experience and suicide will evoke one thought process in the mind of a president to whom this will be as inconsequential as a hole in his sock – “Wow. Good thing he didn’t hurt me.”
And life will go on, as it always does, nothing having changed, except that an amendment will be made to an obscure policy regarding the protection of the president in order to ensure his safety. Oh, and someone will probably be written up or fired for allowing this to happen. That’s a must.
I know, BL, you’re correct. I’m just being my usual sarcastic self. This man was obviously suffering and dealing with a lot of pain, and in an attempt to sidestep and downplay that fact, we are programmed to resume the normal details of everyday life and just get on with things. It’s sad this happened, but it did.

No one is getting fired. It’s no one fault that he decided to off himself in front of the Whitehouse
