It’s a pretty gruesome and brutal death, some people have survived. Also, you’d leave a terrible mess for the rail crews to deal with. Plus think how upset the train conductor would feel if he couldn’t stop in time.
Trust me there are much better methods out there that are fairly painless, effective and relatively quick. Since we can’t discuss them, I’d suggest googling. But you can find a means that will leave a decent body behind.
If I ever follow through with it, I plan to drive somewhere remote but not too far from where I live, with a map for people to find me and I would probably do it away from my car. So my family won’t associate my death with where I live or the vehicle (so it can be resold).
Another option is that here in Canada we have legal Euthanasia for the terminally ill but they’ve allowed people to be euthanized for other reasons and I’m sure there might be some doctors willing to bend the rules to help people get approved. Some people have even flown to Holland where it is much more liberal.
It’s something I am also considering. Most trains require almost a mile to come to a complete stop of traveling at their regular speed. I work in a profession where I have seen the result many times. It is often messy. Laying down between the rails likely won’t work – the train is high enough to pass right over you.

The conductor sees you and stops the train? Or you die in pain.
It won’t work. I know people that’ve tried it. It’s a fail.
Also, they’ll forcefully throw you in the loony bin for a few weeks. That happened to this guy I know.
