“Rita called on the websites to be banned, saying: “They are telling people how to do it, and giving them the names of poisons to use. It’s disgusting.””
I know she’s just lashing out cos she’s grieving, but trying to get these sites banned is only going to hamper free speech and make things worse.
That’s the thing about the internet. If people want a place to talk about something in particular, it will be created somewhere. You can ban it, shut it down, but the members will find somewhere else. So as well as being anti-free-speech, it’s also ineffective.
Humm yes good point, wiat Chin cenores the internet with help from Google, give me n exapmle of where theese people have secretly talked bout banned topics.

Too often symptoms are confused for the cause; personally, I would rather not use this site but then, personally, I would rather I did not have theses, suicidal, thoughts. The thing is, I do; banning the site does nothing to reduce the suicide risk, I don’t imagine that the suicide rate is any higher now than it was fifteen years ago, prior, that is, to common access of the Internet; suicide is as old as mankind, those who wish it, will find a way, site or not.
It reminds me a little of the old attitude to mental illness, if one does not mention it, it does not exist and so the mentally I’ll are made to suffer in silence.
I think I may have missed the point somewhere along the line.
I feel for her mom’s pain…her mom said that out of anger. Rightly so…however the reality remains. There are over 6.5 billion people on the planet and the world is still to scared to address this reality in a dignified,
responsible manner. Until that day comes. Lovely, good hearted, suffering children, men and women will suffocate themselves, jump off bridges, shoot themselves and lay across public rail lines.
What are we so scared of? We’d rather turn a blind eye, and a deaf ear to the cries people make and see and read tragic stories such as this. It’s unnecessary. It’s very sad….I wrote this in another post…why can’t someone express their situation without being subject to someone else’ fear of the unknown because they just can’t deal with it. It’s not an easy subject to address but what is the alternative? This reality has existed for eons, and eons. There needs to be a system in place where someone can advocate for someone wishing to terminate their life. So that loved ones aren’t shocked and surprised at a sudden departure. People need a place to go to find hope….if this is it for now, then that’s okay. This gal’s mom’s mourning does not outweigh or diminish the suffering of countless people who need connection, support and to have a feeling that they will experience relief should it come to it. That’s being real. Cheers!
