What worked for me is that I stopped beating myself up because I couldn’t quit. I let myself do it whenever I wanted, and it lost its potency. I stopped needing it. Another way to quit is to direct your thoughts and feelings into something more productive–which is harder, in some ways, but it is worth it. You can write, play music, draw, paint, create, scream, punch a pillow, take a shower, take a walk, call a friend, post here, email someone, go out to the grocery store or for coffee or something, watch TV…the list goes on and on 🙂 Take care ♥♥
