One day, there was an egg. An egg of an emperor penguin. From time to time, it would twitch and wobble, but it never hatched until the end of the second spring. A crack, a split, and the little bird was free. He caught the first glimpse of the world. The golden sun, the strangely marble blue skies, the glistening white snow and lanky icebergs- It was truly fascinating to him. He took his first steps and with wide, gilt eyes, the twirls of the air pushed him off his feet. The cold breeze made him shiver, even with dappled, grey fur. The dusky night sky soon shadowed over the crowd of penguins and the moon glared with a smile. The small penguin was truly satisfied.
Over the years- through the gruelling winter and broiling summer- the once small penguin was now fully grown. He was different from the other penguins though. He was always much smaller and thinner than all of them. He was bullied because of his figure and was always excluded. His mother always called him “the ugly ducklingâ€. He felt completely hopeless. But, from all the downs in his life and the sadness, he soon had hope. He had courage to show all of the other penguins they were wrong. His strong beliefs that he could one day fly would come true. One day, a day when he was almost alone, he fluttered his wings, and to his amazement, his small arrow-like body hovered above the earth. His feet slowly peeled of the icy ground and he pressured his wings to pleat harder. All the other penguins gasped in amazement. “That’s impossible!†they exclaimed. He elevated higher and higher until he was above the clouds. He lunged forward and soared through the heavenly skies. His hope and dreams had finally come true. He glided down back to the amazed crowd and was praised with glory. Everyone cheered his name. “All bow to the flying wonder!†and he was happy with excitement. He was then the loved of them all.
Moral of the story is that even when you feel like there is no more hope to give and that life should just end because things seem bad, there will always be something good to come. That if you put your mind into things, you will one day be loved for you.

It was a starry night. A sea turtle emerged from the sand on a subtropical island and began ambling toward the sea. He was a solitary creature and was now learning about an environment that was new and exciting. He spent a few weeks inhabiting the calm tranquil waters, enveloped in the safe protective shell that he would often find refuge. Turtles can live to around 80 years of age and one day he was happily swimming along contemplating the life ahead of him. He went about his business exploring the coral reef and admiring a world that few are fortunate enough to experience. Then all of a sudden, unbeknown to him a Tiger Shark loomed up alongside and brought down the sharp blades of it’s teeth like a guillotine, slicing him in half. The calm water turned blood red and the decapitated turtle fell to the bottom of the ocean.
What can we learn from the noble, wise turtle. Nothing!
I had to chuckle just a little bit, Duke, at your story.
I’m sorry Gumpy, there’s a reason fairy tales are fairy tales. Unfortunately Duke’s story happens a lot more in reality.
Fairy tales represent reality just as much as any story does. It’s a matter of variables, chance, and perspective. I’d rather believe the fairy tale, get eaten by a shark, and be totally surprised by that. But I am also a fuckin’ loony nicotine-withdrawn shut-in who has four cats. Reality is weird.
I know, my story is not very realistic 0.o And might no clash with reality. But, i just wanted to make a point that there is hope out there.

for me there is no hope but for others there are.
